Everton's loan haven is attracting other clubs, says Roberto Martínez

Laughing at those saying that using loans is cheating.

Apparently it's sound for some billionaire with no attachment to your team to buy your club and spunk money up the wall, but when a team makes use of the loan market it's 'unfair'.

Madness.

They#re idiots, but that doesn't make loaning players you can never sign a great model.

Yeah, there's an egregious asymmetry in thought process/rationale being applied. Like when banks make profit, they get to keep it but when they lose money, taxpayers have to bail them out...it's all bull**** really.

it's a workable model on a short term pragmatic basis (ie needs must), but it should be seen for what it is: a short term modus operandi toward longer term growth/success.

I do think it is more of an endorsement of RM rather than our club so lets enjoy it for allit's worth while it asts.

Damned sure this would not have been the case if our EX was still in charge.

...not entirely, I suspect the likes of Delefou is providing positive feedback on the clubs infrastructure (training facilities, coaching staff, fanbase, Goodison Park, teammates etc). All of these will be contributing factors. I think its good that clubs are coming to us, it means RM can be selective and have access to a larger and more capable group of loanees.

...nope, who do we want from Madrid?

Varane, 20 yo centreback, 4 starts this season.
Jese, 20 yo striker, 8 sub appearances.
Illaramendi, 23 yo midfielder, 6 starts and 4 sub.
Morata, 21 yo striker, 1 start and 9 sub.
Casemiro, 21 yo midfielder, 4 sub.
Martinez, 19 yo midfielder, 0 appearances.

How's this for an analogy: You get a good job but it requires your having a car. Now, you do have an old manual Toyota, but it's battery is ****ed and until you get a paycheck, you can't afford a new one. So you have to jump start the old clunker every morning which requires your finding a hill to park it on each evening. Is this a satisfactory long term solution? No. It is a pragmatic short term solution to getting in a position where you can afford a new battery.

(not saying Everton is an old clunker like)

As Martinez says we're bringing in players who would each cost £20m+. Moyes always bemoaned our lack of quality in the final third and the lack of funds to address the issue.

Maybe by using the loan market in the short term we can get the type of results that we couldn't get by buying players. In turn this closes the gap on the top 4 and gives us the potential opportunity to earn CL money and raise our profile. This means that we could afford and attract a better quality of player on a permanent basis. If we're then able to progress in the CL we could start getting to the stage where we might be able to sign someone like Lukaku or Deulofeu outright.

It's a much more sensible approach than speculating tens of millions of pounds trying to crack the top 4, even if we did have the funds.
