Everton's loan haven is attracting other clubs, says Roberto Martínez

It may surprise some to know that at various times in 2013 Everton have had 8 players out on loan. One in particular has returned and has every chance of being a World class star.

Lundstram(twice) Duffy Garbutt McEleny (injured) Gueye Junior Hammar Barkley

This experience has done none of these players any harm at all (except poor McEleny of course).

All true. It does depend though on getting the loan team right. Just read an article on former wonderkid John Bostock. The loan system did not help him because he was expected to dominate from day 1 and wasn't in a situation where he was given time to develop. He should have stayed at Palace, and he basically admits this.

The more successfull we are as a club the more of a sh*tstorm it causes.
All fuelled by the media.
The fact is Football is a game with rules and we are playing within them.
When Watford fielded 9 loan players against Palace last season where was the Guardian then?

TBF, they got stick from every bit of media all season for it!!!

Worth remembering that Moyes made good use of the loan market too. This is a list, in chronological order of every player we loaned under Moyes:

Joseph Yobo
Li Weifeng
Li Tie
Rodrigio
Brian McBride
Ibrahim Said
Francis jeffers
Mikel Arteta
Matteo Ferrari
Sander Westerveld
Tim Howard
Manuel Fernandes
Steven Pienaar
Manuel Fernandes
Anthony Gardner
Segundo Castillo
Jo
Jo
Landon Donovan
Phillipe Senderos
Eric Dier
Denis Stracqualursi
Royston Drenthe
Landon Donovan
Steven Pienaar

Don't have a problem with loans really, but I guess where we need to be cautious is with having 3 or 4 loans as key 1st team players. It means re-engineering our 1st team every season, and I'm not sure you could do that successfully every single year.

We have three loan players - Lukaku, Barry and Deulofeu.

Liverpool have Victor Moses and Aly Cissokho.

There's a difference of ONE player between the two clubs. The sole difference is that our loanees aren't abysmal failures at football.

Some absolute stinkers in that list.....

This is the whole issue.

Aparently, you are only allowed to loan gash players.

I feel that Martinez is slowly building up a good relationship with Barcelona, which in turn might get us a young player like Deulofeu every season or two. While this helps our squad depth, it also increases our profile. If Deulofeu returns to Barcelona after this season with a glowing "review" of Everton, who knows, maybe some of his Spain U21 chums might fancy a run in the PL with Everton in the future?
The talk of other clubs looking at us as potential loan destinations is encouraging. Maybe in the next few years Everton will be the place for young, up and coming, wonder kids to prove themselves.
I think that after this season though, other PL teams will be wary of sending us loans because we are now able to threaten the top 4.

I do think it is more of an endorsement of RM rather than our club so lets enjoy it for allit's worth while it asts.

Damned sure this would not have been the case if our EX was still in charge.

...the other difference is that Liverpool can sign these up at the end of the process...unlike us with either Lukaku or Deulofeu.

Unlike us Dave not sure if Liverpool will have the desire or enthusiasm to sign up their loanees, now if we had the money like them there would be only one outcome.

Laughing at those saying that using loans is cheating.

Apparently it's sound for some billionaire with no attachment to your team to buy your club and spunk money up the wall, but when a team makes use of the loan market it's 'unfair'.

Madness.
