Everton Youth Teams Thread

We have scouted Ramsay an 18 year old at Aberdeen as well as Patterson whether it will be a priority in Jan we will have to wait and see

There is never any value in January. Need a LB for u23s maybe spot a bargain somewhere its good for Campbell to get game time but ultimately he is a CB. RB at u23 is fine at the minute Mills, John, Mallon and also Quintyne in the u18s.

Our interest in Aberdeen’s Calvin Ramsay is being widely reported now. At 18 he’s a decent prospect with skill and pace who‘s shown up well in the SPL and European games. But he’s not very experienced, maybe about 10 first team games . I don’t think he’d start ahead of Coleman if we got him in January but would certainly block off Mill’s RB route if we paid money for him.

I'm not sure Mills is the sort of prospect that you worry about blocking a path on if I'm honest. Quintyne impressed me far more last year from limited viewings.

What’s the actual point in the youth teams If players aren’t ever going to get into the first team. Numerous times over the last 18 months we haven’t filled our bench. Do we not have anyone at u23 or 18 level good enough here. How do these kids feel probably knowing they are never gonna get a chance or aren’t trained to the standard of premier league

10th placed Everton u23s are back in Action tomorrow night at 7pm away to 12th placed Leicester u23s and you can watch it Live via Everton if you are a Official Member, or for free via Leicester's website etc, were a free sign up may be needed - if you dont have it from over the years - [if they dont do it via Twitter]

….I really don’t get that blanket statement about ‘never any value in January’. Surely if the player you want is available and they improve the team then they represent value. Can’t see why Patterson would be good if signed in the summer but not if signed in January.

I just think you tend to pay an extra premium in the January window and given our spending is restricted by FFP every player has to be value. If we had money to be burn I would say get him in January 1st. However we need more than a RB so need to make sure we utilise whatever budget we can in the best way we can. I'm also doubtful whether Patterson is quite ready to be first choice.

When it comes to the Youth Cup what would folk in here do. Use Welch, Price etc who are playing in the u23s or play the players who play u18 week in week out. I would play the likes of Welch personally as there extra experience up a level might give us an advantage against other teams that have just been playing against boys. I know this happened a few years ago when Dowells group did it and got beat but I think this lot have a stronger mentally given last years run.

Lost the game but another win in the average age battle. A slightly older lineup for us but no improvement on the pitch (except for Dobbin opening his account)

I think the difference between the Dowell/ Walsh team is that this crop of 2nd years have played with each other regularly at U23s . So they’ll be the core of the team .If selection starts with : Stewart; Mallon, Welch, Campbell ; Price Butterfield; Whitaker , Mills , and Kouyate up front , you’ve got 9 starters, baring injuries. Then look to the other u18s to fill the gaps. Left back becomes intriguing , Samuels-Smith looks like he’s in pole position but Jack Tierney alongside Welch at CB with Campbell at left back would also work. Jenson Metcalfe definitely a good option for a midfield spot ahead of Jagne. On paper you’ve potentially got your 11 starters out of that 13 . Then you look at a range of attacking options who could push through, Lawrence, Sherif, Ebre, Okoronkwo and maybe any of the other 1st years like Isaac Heath who push on .
We’ll know more by January . And of course this is Everton . I remember us losing 1-0 to Villa with the Dowell team, and watching us go 2-0 down to Wigan at home in the Youth Cup last season, so I’m keeping my expectations in check!

Me too I would probably go injuries permitting.
Stewart
Mallon Welch Tierney Campbell
Butterfield Price Metcalfe
Mills Kouyate Whitaker
That would be a strong team. Jagne for me isn't good enough otherwise he would be in the u23s. Maybe needs more time but we'll see. I would love us to win the youth Cup as the last time we won it the players were the same age and older than me. I'm 40 now it's been a long time.

David Unsworth has commented on the exit of Thierry Small from Everton over the course of the summer.

The young left-back made the decision to leave rather than sign a contract with the club, joining Southampton on a three-year professional contract.

The 17-year-old had been offered terms by Everton having been with the academy setup for five years after joining from West Bromwich Albion in 2016.

Small was handed his senior debut in January of this year by Carlo Ancelotti in the second half of Everton's FA Cup win over Sheffield Wednesday at Goodison Park.

However he could not be convinced to stay on Merseyside, and Unsworth has talked about his disappointment that the defender didn't stay with the club.

The under-23s manager told the Echo "In fairness to the club, we did everything we possibly could [to keep him].

"We made him an unbelievable offer, we didn't want him to leave. We never envisaged it coming.

"Up until he actually did leave, we fought really hard to keep him. But when a player doesn't want to be at your club, it's very difficult to try and keep him.

"He's got his way, and that's usually the case these days."

The club's U23s setup have been left short of out-and-out left backs thanks to the exit of Small and the loan departure of Niels Nkounkou over the summer.

Elijah Campbell and Joe Anderson, both natural centre-backs, have been playing in that position over the course of the season so far.

Cant wait to see this dosser at Carlisle Utd in the coming seasons.

Imagine holding a club the size of ours to ransom when he has 10 minutes of professional football under his belt.

I hope he ends up in League 1 with Southampton. I hope he plays this season and gets absolutely destroyed. He is everything that is wrong with modern football.
