FULHAM 3 EVERTON 4

Fulham Under-18s fell to their first defeat of the season after surrendering a two-goal lead in the PL Cup against Everton in an entertaining match at Motspur Park.
The sharp Terry Ablade had the first clear cut chance of the affair. A combination of Sylvester Jasper and Mika Biereth fed the Finnish striker nicely, but Jack Barrett spread himself nicely to deny him.

The Fulham boys cut the Toffees apart again as the forward potency surfaced its head. Ablade down the channel squared for Jasper who forced a superb save from Barrett.
Ablade’s power and pace had been threatening early on as he took matters into his own hands. The striker turned and drove at the Everton defence to send one curling into the corner.

Everton gained composure and started to show why they are a force in youth football. Josh Hosie met an out swinging cross at the back post which hit the outside of the post. The same combination proved fruitful as Hosie nodded in an identical cross.

A game in which the power was swaying one direction then the other, the Young Whites found another goal. Ollie O’Neill’s clever driven cross was met by Jasper at the back who had a simple task.

Some excellent hold up play from Mika Biereth allowed Idris Odutayo to swing in a dangerous ball that fell to Jasper. By his high standards, he should have done better with his low drive under no pressure. Tempers started to boil over as a physical battle developed resulting in a clash between Tom Cannon and Jonathon Page. Both were booked.

Moments later O’Neill helped himself to a pinball in the box to fire a low finish into the corner. Jean-Pierre Tiehi was introduced and almost found the net with his first involvement as he nudged a ball wide with Barrett rooted. Everton did find a route back into the game as sub Lewis Higgins pounced on an excellent Connor McAvoy tackle which initially denied Cannon.

Odutayo was penalised for a harsh handball inside the box which allowed the visitors to suddenly be on terms from the spot. The dying embers saw Bobby Carroll drive and weave through the Fulham defence to dig one into the top corner with no back lift.

Cheers as ever, I guessed at Wudches being Hughes based on position and some letters being the same :) , seems likely as he’s our penalty taker. It’s exciting wondering who these unknown kids are and if they are any good !

Paul Tait hailed his side's "fighting spirit" after Everton Under-18s recorded a stunning 4-3 victory over in-form Fulham in the Premier League Cup.
Three late second-half strikes from Lewis Higgins, Reece Hughes and Bobby Carroll turned the contest on its head as the Young Blues claimed back-to-back wins in the competition.

Joshua Hosie cancelled out an early Fulham opener on 22 minutes, however the home side hit back convincingly to lead 3-1 shortly after the break.
But Carroll's added-time winner completed a terrific turned around from Everton, much to the delight of his manager.
"It felt really, really good," Tait told evertonfc.com.

"The scenes at the end were excellent with everyone celebrating the goal, because it was a tough game.
"They are top of the [Under-18 Premier League South] for a reason and we knew it would be close.
"When Bobby's goal goes in, everyone was celebrating because we have come a long way, had a long journey, stayed overnight, and for the lads to be still grafting and fighting in the last minute to get the winner was really nice."

After their textbook win at Wolves last Saturday, Tait's young Blues were brimming with confidence. However, it was Fulham who started the brighter and took an early lead.
The hosts pressured the Blues' goal in the opening stages, with Jack Barrett being called into action almost immediately.
Unfortunately for the young keeper, after a string of fine saves, there was nothing he could do about the opener, Terry Ablade giving the hosts a deserved 12th-minute advantage.

Everton soon got a foothold in the game, though, as Hosie levelled the scoring.
The right-back was nearly on the scoresheet last week when his powerful shot went agonisingly wide but made no mistake here, latching on to fellow full-back Sebastian Quirk's deep cross to even it up.
"Full-backs, normally, we would encourage to get forward,” said Tait. “I think that has to become part of their job - for the opposite wing-back to get in the box to try to score a goal.

"Josh had another great chance just before he scored, but he just put that wide. He gets himself in there, so fair play to him."
Fulham’s double response came either side of half-time.
First, Ollie O'Neill found room in the Blues' half and crossed for Sylvester Jasper to tap home just before the interval.
O'Neill then got one of his own seven minutes after the restart, driving the ball into the corner after a scramble in the Everton penalty area.

What followed was special. With just 12 minutes of the match remaining, Higgins gave his side a lifeline. After an excellent tackle to deny Carroll, the substitute seized on the loose ball to fire home.
Just one minute later, Everton were level. Higgins once again drove at the Fulham defence, his eventual cross struck the hand of Idris Odutayo, and that left Hughes to haul the visitors level from the spot.

And, with time ticking away, Carroll nonchalantly glided through the Fulham defence before curling a shot high into the top corner, sparking wild celebrations. Having beaten Sunderland 1-0 in their opening fixture in the competition, Everton now sit top of their group, two points ahead of final opponents Norwich City.

It’s good that Tait has got them fighting for a win right until the end, hopefully it can be carried on as they progress through the club. He talks about “wing backs” , and with three young Centre backs in Welch, Hagan and Thompson it looks like we set up with a 3 / 5 at the back with the versatile Quirk operating as left wing back, with Cannon up front and four midfielders, hard to tell though as Warrington and Carroll could have played further forward.
