Everton Youth Teams Thread

...so England U20 play Costa Rica tomorrow lunchtime. I'm on holiday abroad but will try and get to watch it. I know Costa Rica are a third placed qualifier but they had to beat Zambia who topped their group to get through so they shouldn't be taken lightly. Hopefully young Dowell will be full of confidence and the Everton boys will continue to impress. Lookman is due a goal.

...I don't suppose my last sentence posted a few days ago was rocket science. Lookman looked a goal waiting to happen as I messaged to my son this morning.

...I notice the Red Echo going with Solanke starts for England headline. Not to mention 4 Blue boys running the show. Lookman was impressive in the last game, glad he's finishing things off today. The 2nd showed great composure and it looks like money well spent.
Did you expect anything else?

DCL really is an enigma. His movement and runs are causing all sorts of problems for the costa rican defence but then whenever he gets in those good positions his actual ability on the ball is very poor.

You would think it's a bit of nerves if it happens now and then but it's pretty much summed him up so far for us and England, it's like his brain and legs disconnect as soon as the ball is at his feet.

Despite that he's still looking head and shoulders above Solanke, no idea whats happened to that lad, looked phenomenal at U17 level a couple of years ago now he looks disinterested completely.

Lookman looking dangerous any time he gets the ball, Kenny just being his usual solid self and Dowell growing into the game but needs to go looking for the ball a bit more.

Solanke is terrible and reminds me of Nick Chadwick. Typical Chelsea prodigy who has been caught up physically. DCL has a lot going for him, a bit Kane like and do think finishing prowess will come with time.

All of our young lads including Walsh who was meant to be there should be with the first team squad this pre season.

Four minutes of stoppage
Solanke has a chance to initiate the counter attack but his decision-making is poor - with options right and left, he opts for a Costa Rica shirt instead.

Sounds about right for Solanke doesn't it?

From what I've read, the blue contingent were brilliant apart from Dowell who was in and out of the game??

Everton lads did well, Lookman the standout player on the pitch getting 2 goals and a FK hitting the bar and just generally looking unplayable at times.

Credit DCL before he went off by getting a good assist again his movement was great and managed to pick a pass out.

Kenny showed a bit of inexperience towards the end of the game, was still bombing forward and then struggling to get back when the whole team should have just been seeing the game out but other than that he was good as usual.

Dowell showed more of what he offers a team after he was taken off, we suddenly lost control of the game and it gives you an idea of the impact he has despite having a relatively quiet game, his passing though as usual is nearly always weighted perfectly.

Such a shame for Walsh. Must be so bittersweet watching his friends out there. Would have been fantastic to have Kenny, Lookman, DCL, Dowell and Walsh all out there - half the entire outfield XI.

I think Lookman really needed those goals. I think hes been suffering a confidence problem due to so many near misses. It feels like hes had 14-15 near misses without a goal, hitting posts, just hitting wide, or stopped by a good hand. He needed the confidence boost.
