Everton Youth Teams Thread

You guys have a separate TV deal to us though, I'm pretty sure the Premier League deal will give Sky/BT the rights to show them if they choose to, they do occasionally, like the under 21 Mersey derby last week.

That's only a recent thing though. I think it was Brighton even showed a youth cup match against on their YouTube channel a couple of seasons ago

And I think Liverpool showed that match on their channel as well last week so it can't be that.

That's true, if the clubs are free to show the games and just don't then I guess it must be to do with protecting the players from hype and letting develop their game away from the spot light.

Thought this was a good article on what has happened to the players that won the U17s Euros in 2010 and the different fortunes of those from the "Sky 4" teams.

Apart from Chalobah, the boys of 2010 were all born in 1993 and to say that their fortunes have been mixed since then would be putting it mildly. Of course, every schoolboy team has its forgotten faces who never make the grade, but this was not just any schoolboy team. These were the champions of Europe, conquerors of Spain in the final and, as Sir Trevor said soon after, capable of producing more top players than the average junior squad.

So far this season only four of that squad – Saido Berahino, Ross Barkley, Jack Butland and Connor Wickham – have had any game time in the Premier League. The rest are spread over the leagues, forging their young careers with varying degrees of success; from Benik Afobe in the Championship with Wolves, to Bruno Pilatos, who played at Jarrow Roofing in the Northern League last season.

It is worth noting that, beyond the four who have played in the Premier League this season, there are only a further three who are currently in the squads of top-flight clubs. They are Andre Wisdom (on loan

at Norwich City from Liverpool); Luke Garbutt (Everton) and Sam Johnstone (Manchester United). Others, like Chalobah and Will Keane, still at least have Premier League parent clubs.

There's a reference to our u21s playing Tottenham next week in the Premier League International Cup again this year.( Leicester knocked us out on penalties last year.) . We also play Porto and Schalke in our Group and all our matches are at home. Further matches for our youngsters to play and get experience.

Just noticed a report about the England U17 game and out of interest looked at the England squads for the U17 and U16 recent games. Although we have the EFC three in the U18s we don't have any who played recently for the lower ages, which seemed quite unusual after the run that we have had with the academy.

Are they trying out different players? Is our 'golden generation' run of youth players starting to come to an end? Or are our better players at those ages perhaps not English?

Yeah it is a bit strange, we are doing very well at U18 level with lots of 16 year olds playing yet no representation in the youth squads. Not even Evans which is very strange.

Don't see any U16 results anymore, think the club have really tightened up on social media reporting of these as none of the players mention them anymore.

Has Ledson's progress stalled? Was earmarked to start a game at the end of the 2013/14. With that in mind I possibly would have expected him to have had some playing time since then?
