Everton Youth Teams Thread

Dyson and Thorniley played for Stockport again today. Their fans seem to rate them highly, was reading a few saying Thorniley is top class and looks like he finds the game easy at that level and Dyson is the best signing of the summer.

We don't do enough of bigging ourselves up like this, well done to Unsworth for stick his head above the parapet and doing it.

David Unsworth insists Everton are the best club in the country for youth development.

The Blues’ under-21 coach says Everton offer young players a better chance of playing in the Premier League than any other.

Unsworth is preparing his squad for the first mini-derby of the season on Wednesday night (7pm) as they meet Liverpool in Southport.

Brendan Galloway and Tyias Browning are the latest Academy players to be promoted from Everton’s u-21s into the senior set-up.

And Unsworth says the defenders won’t be the last youngsters to move off the production line at Finch Farm.

“It doesn’t need me to say it, it’s there for them to see,” said Unsworth.

“They can see the boys who have been training with the first-team so the lads don’t need any extra motivating from me - it is right in front of their eyes.

“We are the finest club in the country for a grounding of a Premier League player.

“Not only is there a history of us producing players but you can see it every single day.”

'Everything is geared for young players to be successful'
Unsworth added: “There are some fine academies and some fantastic people working there but what I see here, every single day, from top to bottom and the pathway we produce, makes ours the best.

“We have great facilities but it is about the people we have here, from top to bottom.

“From the manager all the way down, everything is geared for our young players to be successful.”

Defender Matthew Pennington, who has been training with Roberto Martinez’s first-team, is relishing tomorrow night’s game.

“It’s a massive game,” he said.

“It’s the one we always look forward to when the fixtures come out and all the lads are excited for it.

“The fact that it’ll be on television means it’s good exposure for us, especially for those hoping to go out on loan.

“I wasn’t involved in the derbies last year, but it’s normally a fiercely-contested game. We got beaten last season so we’re hoping to turn them over and put on a good show.”

Entry to the mini-derby is free for Everton season ticket holders and FOREVERTON members. Admission is otherwise priced at £5 for adults and £3 for concessions.
