Really, really needed that. Cracking resilience shown today, I thought we were clearly the better team but couldn't get that final ball/goal. Typical when of a team on a bit of a negative run.
The thing we take for granted a bit is that no team of Moyes lies down until the final whistle, and it showed again.
Some points: Rodwell, he's 18? He could turn out to be SOME player.
Who taught Tony how to cross?
Fellaini, well in. Changed the game a bit for us, kept the ball on the ground and linked things up.
Howard: once again, massively important save. As proved a minute later.

Very pleased with Distin.

He looked solid, slotted in without any problems and more than anything he was talking to Baines and Yobo throughout the game. I can see why he's captained both Portsmouth and Manchester City.

Yobo looked alot more comfortable aswell.

Yep pretty much summed up there.

Rodwell though, Everton captain in 5 years? If we can keep him, and why should we sell him.

What if he gets 'lescott syndrome' - praying Fabio Capello was cutting the lawn this afternoon(y)

We were always going to sell Lescott. Otherwise why did we plaster it publically all over the place? We were selling him, we just wanted the best price for the club, and it's certainly helping.

Here's my take on the game.

Hibbert - I think he may have been at fault for the goal, I didn't watch Scharner's run so I don't know who should have picked him up. Other than that I thought he was fine.

Yobo - solid.

Distin - Good debut for him. Not that the opposition strikers were the best but he did everything he needed to do with no fuss, hit it long and to touch when he needed to. No panicking etc, good in the air and fast when he needed to be. He also did a lot of talking and seems to have helped out Yobo, seems a natural leader.

Baines - not on form at the moment, but still tried so that's ok. He was unfortunately left facing Wigan's winger and fullback alone a few times and the crowd got annoyed a little with him. Having said that, demanded the ball for the pen and waved Jo away - so credit for taking responsibility and more for scoring.

Neville - good performance, always talking.

Rodwell - a small improvement again today. Generally good passing but still getting used to making passing decisions at the required speed. But when he did get caught hesitating he tended to recover and find a man with his pass.

Pienaar - excellent as always. Showed up the rest of the team by trying hard all game. MoM for me.

Osman - really his only good moment came when he had the ball at his feet in the middle after drifting in. We need to get him out of that position, and the team at the moment. I think he's the main problem with the right side, not Hibbert. What can most fullbacks do when they get as exposed as Hibbert does so often?

Cahill - improved today, was better with the ball at his feet although he missed two golden opportunities to play Pienaar through on goal. I get the feeling him and Fellaini are too similar and cramp eachother's style when both in central midfield.

Fellaini - Very much improved today. I think this may be down to two things - Firstly he was dropped to the bench which was a kick up the arse and he needs a few, he's too laid back. Today he showed me that he can actualy run fast, jockey players and tackle, and also that if he tries he can pass very well when facing goal - it's a shame he isn't facing goal more often. Second reason - Cahill moved to RM when Fellaini came on so they weren't getting in eachother's way.

Saha - Got his goal, well done. He really is a 'centre-forward'

Jo - was great when he came on, he's all about movement and getting in behind. This way he got himself in great shooting positions and came very close. Showed good speed and determination to get the pen.

Bilyaletdinov - Unfair to bring him on in this game! What was he supposed to do? Had one touch which was a good lay off backwards. Will need time to settle definitely!

Overall - Wigan are GARBAGE and dirty. Our setpieces were mostly terrible. Our play was much better than our last PL games, had some good chances. I think we will look even better when we sort out the right side. The crowd seemed much more happy today, which I think is down to having new players in, not only replacing Lescott but improvements.

The reason he came on is probably to do with his renewal work-permit requirement, probably something like when fit he must play certain number of games each season.

Also I think Moyes want him to get a quick feel of the Premier League game, so he have time to prepare himself for the coming matches.

Disappointed with our starting line up yet again today.

Felly on the bench and Osman and Cahill on the pitch, against footballing giants didn't make sense.

Also why take Saha off when he could have taken Cahill off who spawned chance after chance.

Overall, we played very well, so I won't dwell on the good points as they were plain for all to see.

Who was the guy playing right back?
Have we signed a Spanish International? Hands up Hibby, you were terrific today.

Rodders played well, and had a lot of room to move today and used the ball well, even if his shooting wasn't European style lol.

Pienaar and Baines didn't work well today, and I thought perhaps Moyes might have put Pienaar on the right at some stage. Baines is a bit below his usual self at the moment and hopefully will be back on form soon.

The defense looked quite good with the exception of the goal so a good plus there.

I still don't get Nevilles insistence in floating balls upfield, especially against tall players, and the same goes for hoofer Howard. More often than not, we're just giving the ball away.

Also why is it our players can't take quick throw ins?
The amount of time we lose momentum waiting for Baines or Neville to throw a ball is silly, especially as a quick pass is all that's needed. It brings Neville out of position and gives the opposition time to regroup.

Some great bits of football throughout though, and very much deserved the points today.

As has been said about Fellaini, I thought he made a big difference when he came on. I thought he did really well with the first time ball to Cahill was it in the penalty area - it was the right ball played quickly - too many times Everton seem to dwell on the ball. Also, he always tries to be positive - the way he can take the ball under pressure in an advanced area and find an oppenent further forward - almost a bit more direct than Arteta, although he doesn't yet have the all-round game or read the game as well.

Cahill has probably been my favorite Everton player since his fantastic first season, but I worry that the goals are going to/or have dried up a bit. The number of goals he scores from open play seems to have decreased and although he has replaced these goals with goals from set-pieces, teams can work at nullifying his threat.

Was vital that we got the 3 points, so happy about this, obviously.

Hibbert a hero today

Thought Hibbert was very good going forward today. Had good crosses into the box, seems like he tried to improve from last season

When it came to corners why was he hanging around the outside of the box? he's 6 ft 1 for christs sake.

My guess...he is crap in the air and has a great shot on him. Therefore he is positioned to pick up and deflected balls and thunder them in.
