I think they're mindful that the crowd at Goodison still isn't happy and didn't want to be too happy as after all it's still only a draw at home against West Ham. A team we should be beating relatively easily.

Maybe so and hopefully thats all it was. I just thought they'd have been more upbeat about saving the game at the death and getting a second chance. Just seemed a bit down to me.

Robles played incredibly. He gets a lot of (sometimes deserved) abuse, but he does have something about him.

I think it's more a case of people being satisfied that there are signs of improvement. We created some decent chances with fast flowing football, albeit in small patches.

After witnessing the 90 minutes at Hull, believe me this was miles better. Still not great, but a start.

Thoughts:

We played counter-attacking football for the most part today, much like in the Europa, to no surprise Lukaku looked like himself and we attacked well for the most part.

Besic was good again - he's going to be a great little player for us. Love him already.

Robles even looked solid after a dodgy start.

Stones is still boss.

Taking off Mirallas was the most ridiculous decision i've ever seen, and again it was NO surprise that until McGeady came on and gave us some width we were barely able to move the ball upfield and create a chance. Martinez please take note.

The theory about the players not playing for Martinez and the shirt is bullshit, and I hope people realise.

Agree with every bit of that bar the Mirallas part. We all commented he didn't look interested from the first minute to being subbed. The liner on our side (Paddock) was the only one who had a worse game than Mirallas and the Ref. He'll be better against a footballing side like City though

It was better, still needs to improve, but going in the right direction. I enjoyed the game as they were trying more than of late. Could have been 2 up by half time. kept going and boooom, go ead Rom. Besic is starting to look mighty fine.

I came out of the ground so angry for so many reasons. There were positives, we look like we have a bit of our attacking guile back and Lukaku, Besic were very very good. But that was not a good West Ham side - not as good as the one we face not so long back and beat, we should have torn them to pieces. We are lacking so much confidence

Distin was shocking and I echo other's thoughts that I would not be bothered never to see him again. Jagielka is just shot, he is no captain - when we needed pushing on today, when the crowd was up and begging for the team to push on he should have been dragging that defense and midfield up the pitch but instead he stumbled about with Carlton effin Cole - 'I like Phil, nice bloke but a terrible captain'...wow were have we heard that before!?

Just before the build up for their goal I think it was Lukaku and Naismith who were harrying the West Ham defence and you could sense they were bricking it. But I look up and the rest of the team was stood around waiting for the ball to come back. I couldn't believe it! It's signs like that which signify a lot of this bad form is down to the lads on the pitch as much as it is with Bobby, just a real half-arsed attitude. Which is why actually seeing us rally late on came as a pleasant surprise.

The other thing that wound me up was obviously the ref, just an absolute meff who time and again hindered us. The standard is just going from bad to worse in this country with officials.

Oh and a quick one about Ross, he looks terrified to play football. He looks terrified to make a mistake or have a shot that won't scream in to the back of the net so much so that he ends up making a bad decision. I really hope for his sake the team picks up and his confidence rises with it as he really is a terrific talent.

I've calmed down now, we'll beat City then do West Ham in the cup...easy.

Needed that tonight, just needed a result to see how the side responded.

First time in while that they showed fight after going a goal down, Very pleasing for me that as it's nice to see signs of life that we have a team and they actually exist.

Still, Roberto made a few mistakes. The Mirallas sub was ridiculous, we'll leave it at that.

Whisper it quietly but if we play 2 wingers against Citeh, we MIGHT get something.

On another note, that ref was poor language removed!
No where near good enough to ref, he got so many decisions wrong from corners, throw ins, fouls, pulling of shirts, simulation, etc

Yeah that seems to be a problem with us all season. Fouls going against us but not with the opposition, penalties given against us when they weren't clear cut pens, Players getting hit (like Coleman getting hit by Cisese's elbow) but nothing called and Carlton Cole repeatedly kicking the ball away and it wasn't until the end that the ref confronted him.

The lads put a shift in and didn't deserve to lose

Hopefully the result has given them some confidence they can take into the upcoming league fixtures

We need to find 20 points from somewhere to ensure our survival. Anything better than that now is a bonus

Exactly what I thought throughout the game too. We are playing as individuals not a team.

Seems there is two camps tonight

It does seem that way, but I think you can take something from both sides. That you can feel positive about the result because we fought back to level it, created some pretty good chances in the process and hope this result instills some badly needed confidence in our squad going forward, but still feel that there more work to be done (particularly on defense) in order for Everton to get back to good form.

I think that's fair.

One thing I just wanted to mention which I noticed. When the ball came across to Oviedo and he sliced it ( when he tried to volley a difficult shot in about the 85th minute ) the camera cuts to Martinez and he's talking to Oviedo and very calmly saying take your time, don't panic, be clear or something to those effects. A lot of managers would be highly pissed off but you can see he's trying to coax the players into finding form. A few minutes later Oviedo takes his time and drills a ball across goal and we score. Not saying the managers words had played a part, just something I noticed.

In fairness weren't we all doing that? He should have taken a touch.
