We needed to move him deeper and drop Schneiderlin. He makes up for Gueye's weaknesses and vice versa
Essentially all that happened is what we have all been saying for some time. Theres no point to two DMs, and putting Gueye and Schneiderlin next to eachother. Putting an offensive minded midfielder in that spot has changed things a lot. Again, most people on this board saw this and begged for this.

I’m not sure what match people are watching but we’re still awful. Martina is a waste of space, Rooney is everywhere ... playing well but leaving enormous holes, Holgate’s distribution just consists of wellying it upfield ... the shape when defending is all wrong as Rooney is on the back line, when attacking we have nobody holding the centre so we can’t string a set of passes together. Against a side who aren’t as bad as us, we’ll still get killed

Of course it's not the end all be all, and that would be stupid to insinuate but if you don't have that drive to put the talent to work you're useless. Ronaldo and Messi aren't the best simply down to technique (as a counter look at Quaresma) they both work on and off the field with a fire in their belly.

Talking of talent and technique, that 3man challenge in scoring goals video, showed just how good Rooney is......pure class....

Doing well here. Pressing in packs, getting back quickly when we lose possession, runners when we attack and lots of talking between the players. Not sure what's happened since Sunday but we look like a completely different side.

Exactly. Rooney doesn't play his position anyway, so put him in a deep central role and let him do what he does. He is no longer a liability and he can make an impact.

All we needed to do was play Rooney. I don’t know what the panicking was about........ROONEEEEYYYYY......

Is right. If only people would accept we have an older Rooney who has lost a yard of speed but still expect the younger Rooney. He needs to drop off and find space to be able to play footy. Up front he is easily marked out the game and cannot chase down inaccurate punts. Let him drop deeper so he can get more involved and look to get us on the front foot.
