What’s worrying it’s early days for Walcott and Tosun and bolaise coming back into the side, but that pace and outlet we lacked when big sam first come in is actually there now. Those 3 will take time to gel/click but today I didn’t see any real desire to get the ball down and get it wide and give Tosun some decent service. Leicester and Arsenal will be interesting, both sides have pace upfront, wonder if we go at Leicester and have a go or will it be a case of let’s not be too open?

I don't want to make any defence of fraudulent Sizeable Samuel, but I do doubt that the tactics were for Schneiderlein to hide behind Rondon and to immediately knock it back to Williams on the odd occasions he received possssion.

We had 57%. I'm not talking bare numbers. I'm talking important numbers. How many key passes, how many balls between the lines, in comparison to how many times he went sideways to fullbacks who weren't even advanced, or worse knocked it to Holgate to take responsibility. The top balcony is great for seeing what players actually do.

I think too many people are seizing on Martina as THE scapegoat, THE reason why our play is so inept and slow. Okay he's a not brilliant right back who's being asked to play on the left, but to constantly blame him for everything that goes wrong in a game is just stupid.

Don't think we are scape goating but everyone knows the score. Poor lad gets bombarded every single game being the weakest link so it's going to increase blame.

So you don't think that people saying things like "playing Martina is like playing with 10 men" isn't scapegoating the guy? There's loads of posts on here picking on him as the weak link, when we all know there's plenty of other weak links to choose from!

I don't know that it was Sam's tactic.

West Brom recognised that we have a problem bringing the ball out of defence. So they were happy to allow our back four possession and not challenge them as they brought the ball forward. Opportunities to pass forward were few, and our back four played themselves into trouble several times.

The alternative, of course, was to play long balls. Apparently, Martina had more touches in the first half than anyone else, but I'd still like to see the statistics for individual players.

And the other weak links are also in other threads. If you play out of position you are a weak link. As I said i feel for the guy! Playing with 10 men comment is a little harsh I admit. It's not his fault. 3rd choice for scummers and the brought in as temp on the right only then gets shoved on the left.

Fair comment, although I do feel that he comes in for more than his fair share of blame. As you say, it isn't his fault he's unsuited for the only position that, seemingly, only he can be picked for. The club management is at fault, not Martina.

IMO thats our biggest problem we have awkward slow none-attacking full backs .. makes us slow and predictable

Kenny will be a good player, but now he's useless. He kill every.single.attack with his sloppy passing and aimless boots down the line. And when he's not doing that he's turning around and giving it to a centre back or the keeper. I pull my hair out when Pickford throws the ball to one of our full backs who, looking lost and confused, takes a few touches and then passes it back to a centre back, who then because they are already being closed down touches it back to Pickford who then proceeds to smash it upfield to nobody in particular.

looking at bertrand now for example .. fast and super direct , not the best player passing etc but he asks questions

thats why am surprised we never gave lennon a go as a full back .. might not offer a lot in the air but he had some defensive quality's e.g. moses

...Southampton thumped us not so long ago and look better than us despite being in the bottom three.
