It was a good point. A bad point is when you come away feeling that you should have won. I never felt like that today.

Spurs are a team full of quality players, with a top notch defensive record. You need to show them respect, as they can break with genuine speed and hurt you. In some respects they are better set up to play away from home, because they lack the creativity against teams who sit deep (see their lack of goals). But this season they will probably be one of the hardest matches we could have at Goodison.

Gut instincts on the match were that spurs were the better team and we struggled to get a real foothold in the match. However, because we didn't go all out for the win and leave space, Spurs struggled to brake us down and didn't have the creative quality to crate genuine chances. Physically spurs are a big strong side and today we seemed to lose most 50/50s. If one of ours mis-controlled it Spurs were into it in a flash. Other than City away I think it is the first time we have lost the midfield battle this season.

Feels a bit flat because we could have been second. But on 3 November, it doesn't really mater. We are a point off second with a winnable match next week. Probably more importantly, Martinez would have learned something about his players today; weaknesses that he will address in future transfer windows. Would rather learn when drawing against a very good Spurs side, rather then getting beat.

I wouldn't argue with that assessment, tbh.

Not many sides will have a midfield as hard working, and full backs that energetic, as Spurs had today.

Yes, but we need to be prepared for teams doing that and move the ball quicker and with greater accuracy. I think the manager knows what a good side Spurs are, but was pretty disappointed that we weren't at the races in the first half and that creatively we didn't offer much outside of turning to Lukaku.

Yep

And that requires better technically gifted players to do it against the better sides

This will be important to remember when we lose a few or go on a bad run....or if we dont finish top 7 like many expect.

This is Bobbys setup and tactics but not yet the players he will want to make it work. Osman must be out of the picture by next season and used only as sub or injury backup this season, whilst Pienaar will need to be replaced for next season also.

Of course. We where unusually poor with the ball today. All 11 wasted the ball at times or panicked with it.

We won't be as bad as that often. Bar Jelavic the best 11 finished the match. Though Pienaar once again done nothing so I'd be looking to give someone else a go.

Ive said this for a while regarding results

At some stage we will hit a bit of poor form, I just hope everyone sticks by him and doesn't get on his back

He's using Moyes side with his style of football, Lets see how far he can take it with his own players

Outclassed.

I guess the difference is, with Moyes, he'd be in your faces against a 'big team', Martinez approached it like a normal game, which in no disrespect to Martinez, never worked today.

Wasn't helped by a shocking refereeing effort ruining our game.
I was happy to see Barkley start on the bench, because, let's face it, he needed a kick up the arse, or a rest at least, and hopefully that dropping will see him better!

Outclassed?

I don't remember Howard making a difficult save all game, We limited them to long shots

Without question first half they were on top of every lose ball and pressed us all over

Second half we could have won the game, In fact I would say we had the better chances of the game

Outclassed my arse

Just got back, annoying game really, just move on and concentrate on the next one, at least we didn't lose.

Onwards and upwards blues.

As far as being outclassed??? Outworked in the first half but we had the better second half and had the better chances to score!

There's no way we were 'outclassed'. We made a rod for our own back first half and put it pretty much right second half to edge that half.

Yes they may have showed teams how to try play against us...

Wasn't commenting on you saying players not performing to there best was commenting on your view that spurs have just shown everybody how to play against us (ie pressing) which is not true and is no secret as to how to play against teams that play out from the back.

Villa beat arsenal, hull took spurs to the last minute and a dodgy pen. Think you simplify things too much...players don't always preform, teams don't always beat who they should etc etc...

I'm finding your posts a bit confusing.

It isn't a secret. I haven't said it is. I was drawing attention to the fact that Spurs did it and snuffed out everything we did. We knew they would do this and didn't have an answer. This has been the case in large parts of the last few games and I was originally saying that unless we've got an answer in games, we're going to make things a tad difficult for ourselves, especially against good teams like Spurs.

How do you mean "simplifying things too much"?
