Thought we played really well bar first 20 mins of second half. Surprised people not really mentioning Davies. I thought this was his best game since his first season. Calm, assured, good touch and kept ferreting for the ball and playing it forward.

I'm not sure our attack was THAT bad. Walcott should've scored a sitter and with all the free kicks they were giving up, we should've maybe done a bit better, but we were probably fortunate not to score a few more.

In general, I think a couple guys were just a bit rusty. Coleman's final cross typified a good match from him, just ran out of gas a bit. Baines was being picked on a bit and well, I would do the same thing, but I think Digne is eventually going to be the guy out there, and he's much better defensively.

The zonal marking scheme has to be killed with fire, though.

We should give a bit of praise to Mark Hughes' work-ethic, to transform Southampton so quickly into a side that would shame a 1970's Uruguayan outfit means he must have put in a hell of a shift this summer.

I thought Siggy was tremendous today, southamptons midfield couldn't touch him, thought holgate and keane looked assured at the back. That zonal marking needs ripped up though. Way to many chances from corners today.

For a while there, it was looking peak Everton...but we descended that mountain top... and finished with aplomb.

We should have scored more goals, Wallcots disallowed goal wasn't offside. He shold also got another one. For me he was the MOTM, right in front of Sigurdsson. Also thought Richardilson and Tosun played well. Keane was good in the first half, but is to blame for Soton's goal.

Never felt in danger of losing this even when we gave them silly chances in the 1st half.

The zonal marking has to be binned or someone needs to be sat in the 6 yard box, absolute criminal to allow a poacher to be 2 yards from goal with absolutely no one even aware that he's in there, either has to be changed in initial zoning positions or the preferable bin it off entirely and go man for man.

Gana really stepped up with Schneiderlin going off but also think we missed Schneiderlin (didn't think i'd be saying that) he does a job of calming everything down in the build up and as much as Gana excels without Schneiderlin you can see why Silva want's him in there.
