Thought Doucoure had s fantastic game even without his goal. Richarlison and Gray were close though.

I said during the match thread we didn’t lack effort but quality. Much better second half and credit to benetiz for the slight tactical change at half time that won us the game. However a bit of perspective needed. Saints in the last week have sold their best forward and central defender. I think they’ll be in a relegation fight this season. As for us, more difficult tests lie ahead starting with Leeds away. But let’s hope the players and the returning ones this week, can take the confidence and performance from the second half into next week.

Let's park the summer of discontent for the day. That was class. Atmosphere was great. Hugged random sweaty lids, smelt that fine smell of ale, got behind the team. Good times!

Scary that a back line that has been operating as a unit for several seasons with the exception of Godfrey (not in team squad today), is still struggling with the basics of communication...
And certainly should not be huffing and puffing against Southampton at home first home game of th season, let alone one that has just flogged its two best players.
Still that was the opposition the mighty Saints and it needed Goodison boo to get them going for second half.

Wingers did well... Richy looks sharp and so he should long may it continue... Lovely diving header from Dom. Iwobi looking better.

Still buzzing after that - Leeds will be a tougher test expecially with it being their 1st game infront of the home crowd in the PL we have to remember.

But just nice to not have Everton ruin our weekend!
