Kn*b heads booing by us because jags played it back to Howard when we were 3-1 up with 10 mins to go. Think I will move away from the Lower Gwladys next season. Not a good place to be these days which is a shame. It used to be boss.

People aren't talking about the lack of goals (there isn't a lack of goals); that isn't the criticism. The criticism is his role in the system.

To get chances in the role he's asked to play, he has to be creating them by being the focal point of the initial attack. It's a role he cannot do it seems.

Lukaku's goals come from individual bits of magic because he's naturally gifted at slotting, but when he doesn't slot he's utterly pointless otherwise.

It isn't like the old fashioned poacher/goal hangers though, as they've gone from the modern game. Lukaku isn't that - he's meant to be a cog in the build up play, but he's a liability who manages to get a goal every game or so.

I can see why people can't understand the criticism, as they'll look at his goal tally and think, "well, that ain't bad!" - but it's deeper than that. You know those games we've looked ineffectual, slow and sluggish going forward? It's largely because everything breaks down around Lukaku in the first instance, and the slow passing around defence is because he isn't taking up the right positions to get the play flowing quicker.
If you said to people "would you take a 1 goal start and play for 90 minutes with 10 men every match?" most people would say no.

Just in from the match. Thought Besic was class all nightlong roaming the midfield. Some class hard tackles and you could see the QPR midfielders almost looking round to see where he was every time one of them got the ball in our half. Cracking slide tackle in our box towards the end of the game. Did anyone else see Barton go over to him and congratulate him with a 'low 5' for that tackle?

He's not a target man or a player who brings others into play, he's a finisher. Plain and simple.

The amount of stick he gets for not chasing down dead balls. He's not Denis Stracqualursi FFS. People accuse of him making little effort. Anyone remember Louis "jog in the park" Saha strutted around the pitch doing absolutely nothing?

Lukaku is the best striker we've had for years and he's still only 21. He's going to develop into a beast, people need to patient instead of just slating him to high heaven if he has a game where he doesn't score. If we keep doing that then I wouldn't blame him for jibbing us off in a few years.

to be honest, i get exasperated every time we do that because Howard just ends up hoofing it down the field. If we're going to do that we might as well skip all the backward passing and at least have a chance of hitting someone on a diagonal ball. If Howard could/would play the ball out then I'd have no problem with it.

Finally.

Some sanity.

Some faith restored.

He's 21.

Scored 15 in 31 last season.
6 in 15 this season.

Good win and it was comfortable despite the commentary.

Still very concerned about our inability to create much and the sideways passing in front of the back four....we just can't seem to play the way Martinez wants us to in the league (in europe we can).

Kone looked good again in the few minutes he had, along with this performace on thursday.

Any update on kevs injury?

Barkley shouldn't play deep, he links well with Lukaku.

Also, the CDM partnership should be McCarthy-Besic
DM in front of the back 4 and #10 aren't the only two midfield positions. Barkley will play somewhere between the two, don't forget it was a one-two with Rom that set up Ross's goal.
