VAR was always going to come in irrespective of the standard of refereeing at the time. It's an advancement in technology which allows officials to decide with 100% accuracy on things like offsides, did the ball cross the line etc which wouldn't have been possible without it as the human eye simply can't see.

The reality is that, with a decision like yesterday, if that goes in our favour then United fans would be upset and they would be arguing the finer points of the rules associated with 'interfering with play'. There can be no system which is 100% accurate on everything. Somebody is ALWAYS going to be aggrieved somewhere. It's a fact of the game, sometimes it goes for you and others it goes against you. I don't disagree with you that the standard of reffing could be improved but I don't think it's too far off where it needs to be.

When you assess how VAR has performed this season, we've not been disproportionately hard done by, certainly not by comparison.

It is, at least, a relief to hear you don't believe the refs are bent as was so often put forth yesterday.

How would you defend the Walcott penalty call last month?

Watched MOTD again this morning.

Wright questioned why Siggy did not get up right away. I will tell you if he had it would be a definite offside, he chose to stay thinking there can be no offside. Have to ask as DCL shot why did the lines man not flag or the ref whistle up for offside? In fact ref was inclined to give a goal but it was Maguire (he scored the goal) who rushed over to complain obviously even though the ref had waved players away.

Also how can it be offside the ball took two deflections of Man U players.

But overall in my book when Siggy went down a penalty should have been given.

THIS REF WAS NOT UP TO IT.

Cant say its gone with only 3 points in it, granted theres a lot of teams to take over, but we need to go to Chelsea and then host the vermin and beat them both.

Not looking likely is it?

Thought Europe, even CL, was on for a couple of weeks there. Honestly think our only bet now the City ban standing at 8th getting EL.

I don't think I've ever hated football as much as I do right now. It's got to the point where I despise everything about it except own club (which also does my head in!) and the grass roots levels of the game. The level of open corruption and bias is sickening. It's not a sport anymore, its a drama show. Everton beating Man Utd yesterday isn't the story they wanted to tell, but Man Utd getting a 1-1 draw after a late disallowed and lots of juicy gossip and drama to talk about is perfect for them. There's no way that anyone can watch thay goal back onscreen and not give it, unless they'd already made their decision and didn't care what the camera showed. One day, people will wake up to this corruption and just walk away en masse from the game.

However, another example of the refs sheer incompetence is the Sidibe yellow for coming back on. Clearly the linesman should have been dealing with that better and for him to get a yellow for at worst, a misunderstanding, it’s absolutely appalling.

Is it not the case that the ref is the ONLY person to call a player back onto the pitch (not the linesman). You see players wait every week to get the signal from the ref to come back on. Sidibe walked back onto the pitch after play had re-started. The ref was right, not you.

Also, the ref can book a player for going off the pitch without his permission, I believe (correct me if I'm wrong on this one).

I wouldn't. I thought it should've been a penalty. I don't think Brighton would've had many complaints if it had been given.

Nobody is claiming that there have been no decisions against us.

big fan of Fernandes trying to shoot from every angle possible.
Absolutely. Genuinely cannot remember the last time we had a pop from distance that actually tested the goalkeeper. Defies logic, what with how these balls fly through the air and change direction so easily.

I thought Baines had a good game but once again felt we looked horrific on the right hand side. It really shows how bad our options are when Iwobi stunk the place out last week and we were all pining for Walcott to come back, only for him to play and turn, as usual, to utter dog dirt. Sidibe cannot be relied on in defence as his positional play is possibly as bad as any player I've ever seen, and Coleman is backup for one more season and should then be released.

Gomes looks slow but I won't put any blame on him as he's returning from injury. Aside from that he's composed on the ball and we already look more solid in midfield. Davies was terrible first half but a little better in the second. The strikers looked alright but it must be so difficult when the midfield behind them, in general, is awful.

Holgate imo was superb again, and Keane was steady. Pickford needs putting in the bin.

That VAR decision was taken way too quickly. It was a thorny issue and it required a few minutes deliberation. I'd say that the decision to disallow the goal was taken about 90 seconds to 2 minutes after the goal was awarded. We've seen decisions drag on for 3/4 minutes in the past. And this one was a crucial one at the end of the game, which also meant it wasn't going to affect the flow of the match thereafter, so they should have taken their time in any case.

I was amazed at the speed of that process yesterday. It underlines that this season is a complete rite off in the PL. It's been a calamity which has made a nonsense out of the season.

I have absolutely no interest in football other than Everton these days. Do they get as many decisions wrong in other games? The Spurs game earlier this season was a catalogue of errors too. It just seems like they're so inconsistent with the application of VAR.
