I might have to report the last two pages for off topic.

This thread is about what tosh we are not going to sign this January, not previous years.

I have to concur mate. I am as much to blame as anyone.

Lets leave the Rom transfer chat. Even though someone is talking talking total bobbins.

Any further chat in this thread will mean a thread ban. Me included. ;)

Sigh...You've not answered my question.

Oh well it's only you who thinks Fellaini payed for Lukaku so I guess we're all wrong and you right in a very @Adversus like strange universe.
.

As I had already stated, we sold other players that summer too. But this is ridiculous, you seem to be fine with stating that the 28 million received from the sale of Fellaini has been spent on other squad members, but you seem to have a problem accepting that it had an impact on our ability to sign Lukaku. It all comes under the same bracket of player expenditure.

So I guess you can choose whether not selling Fellaini would have prevented us from signing McCarthy, Lukaku or McGeady. But you cant argue that we would have spent about 28 million pound less than what we have done. I'm sorry, but I maintain that we would not have been buying Lukaku if we had not have received a 28 million pound cash injection from the sale of Fellaini. I don't think we would have signed him if we had 28 million pound less to spend during that period.

Just saying.

I doubt we'll see anything in January apart from signings like Foulds, but I'd be happy with one more kid and a loan signing, although I'm not actually sure where the loan would play. Martinez has used his loans to fill needs/recruit players, but I've got no clues who he's targeting and I haven't seen any good @Sport0fact updates recently.

I don't think anyone has said he is crap, but if he doesn't learn how to deal with a cross into the box, then I think the 40 million pound valuations may start to decrease.
There are several CBs, of varying ages, that can deal well with crosses. There are very few, of any age, that have the skill and composure on the ball as John. That would suggest the former is a lot easier to teach than the latter.

Personally think that, although it is currently still a weakness of Stones along with overplaying, he has improved on both over the time he has joined the first team amd would expect him to continue that progression.

ball playing CB with real eye for the game are super rare. It's no suprise that teams like Barcelona are keeping their eye on him.

So Martinez sold 5 players he didn't actually want to help purchase 2 player he really wanted, hmmm how does that tally with Dymak saying we should sell stones and you supporting his position about strengthening the team by that method being our strategy - when it clearly would mean Martinez sells someone he has stated is integral to the way he sees us developing as a team?

btw, have we actually sold any player since Rooney besides for Lescott who at the time they were sold was really an integral part of the managers plans for the team

Some people act like every season we sell our best player which is i suppose a way of driving whatever agenda they are pursuing

Arteta? Pienaar? Rodwell?

Didn't read what @Dymak said about Stones. If I had to guess it would be about the inevitability of his sale and that player trading is essential for our progression. Keeping hold of Stones long term until his contract runs down is actually pretty stupid from s business point of view.

The other argument about player sales and buying Lukaku seems bizarre. Seems clear to me that Martinez sold players he didn't want to buy players he did. As I've said before, the tv deal will stop sales like Arteta's (forced to sell to service debt) but it will not alter the reality of improving via player trading.

Literally don't bother with @Dithering Dougie he probably argues with himself when he's alone. His posts on Howard show his lucidity. It's not worth the web he'll draw you into. Anyone with a brain knows money in the till went towards the money out regardless of how it was structured. You're dealing with s professional WUM though, he'll argue every single word of every reply until you're in a parallel universe where Howard is a good keeper and Barry is the best midfielder in the prem.
