The problem with selling DCL isn't just that he can't be replaced (he can't, not with any degree of certainty anyway), it's the message it sends out that we're throwing in the towel.

Richarlison is more understandable. Excellent player on his day but flatters to deceive too often, and we can replace his position wide left easier.

For either, we should be asking £80m+ to entertain it.

4-3-3 gets the best out of our best players.

It doesn't even have to be some ultra-attacking system.

Davies should be in it because he is, right now, the only player we have who likes to get on the ball from the defence and just stay positioned central. Let Allan/Doucoure/Gbamin go and push on and do what they want to do and hassle, cause the first two certainly cannot play together in a two.

James right but we do need another option, whether he stays or goes. Richarlison and Gray for the left.

It's why a right-back - as you've been saying for ages too - should have been one of our top priorities. I'm sure it was, but the fact is we're heading into the season without one who is up to standard. And it's a disgrace.
If we brought in Dumfries for RB the following starting XI would not be too bad. In fact I think it would challenge.

Pickford, Dumfries, Mina, Godfrey, Digne, Gbamin, Allan, Doucoure, James, Richarlison, Calvert-Lewin.

It's about finding the right mix and balances across the pitch. Gbamin and Dumfries will add that little bit of power and pace that we lacked last season. We'd need to be lucky with injuries, as with any team who is successful, but we're due a change in luck.

But it's all moot really as we have a manager who it appears is unlikely to embrace that system.

Hasn't Dumfries gone to Inter?

People claimed that when we were selling Lukaku. Apparently it would mean the goals would be spread around the squad.

It was completely wrong then, and it's completely wrong now. If we sell DCL we won't find anyone who can offer the side what he does and we will find ourselves towards the bottom of the table.

The only difference there mate is that Lukaku is much much better than DCL. DCL saved us a lot last season, despite that he scored 16 league goals and that *should* be easily replaceable for £70m. Whether or not we trust Brands, Moshiri, Benitez and co. to actually do that is another thing altogether.
