And dreadfully governed if the new leaks about Man City are true. There does need to be financial regulation in football but FFP only enables the 'old money' clubs and it has to go.
That being said, our own worst enemy is ourselves. We have certainly spent more than enough since being taken over to be a really competitive side and it's absolutely laughable to see how wasteful we've been. This summer has probably been a long time coming sadly, our profligacy was always bound to come back and bite us at some point.

Why on Earth would we need to be linked with players now? All the Season Tickets have been sold.
The Horse Punchers do this every year with rumours of investment or Ashley selling, always at renewal time.
Then it all goes quiet when the tickets are sold, and there is perhaps a short statement saying the sale didn't work out for whatever reason.
It's just Beneathus and his continued Geordification of our great Club.

In fairness, not that you will ever admit this, they have tried to improve the squad every single year. We do have James, Brazil number 9, England number 1, France LB, as well as players from Barcelona and Napoli who we thought would kick us on, they haven't but the intent has always been there, the execution is the issue.
We will have a couple of better players signed this summer as well.
