Everton Summer Transfer Thread - 2022

Before we got to the Emirates on the final day, as a group we had a discussion and the general consensus was...

'The only reason the RS will win this is if Pep decides to do his usual and choose a barmy team.' You could choose a brilliant XI, but he decides to tinker away.

Taking KDB off against Madrid was farcical decision that cost you greatly. Anyway, if you'd buy Branthwaite for say £80m plus a player we'd all be very happy.*

*This is a fantasy, of course.
Branthwaite. Is that a company that makes Piccalilli?

This summer is probably the biggest transfer window in a long long time for us.

We almost got relegated with this group of players, how do we improve that while possibly selling one or two of our best players?!

I worry about who we bring to replace a Richarlison or DCL. Young hungry players are great but you cannot rely on too many like that without premier league experience.
We've got to rely on Thelwell making the correct decisions, but for a fairly inexperienced individual at this role I do worry that it's a gargantuan task.

In terms of the players, I have more of a glass half-full perspective: while we were terrible for large swathes, Lampard had seven out of nine wins at home.

I don't think the squad is as terrible as some may suggest (at least the XI) although there's lots of weaknesses and our depth is slim to nothing.

With a fair few high earning players and their wages off the books, we've got to sign players in the key positions of CB, CM (x a few) and an option or two up front.

The sale of one of the two, for the right price, will help fund at least two of those positions, but then we're a player down.

I doubt we're offering him to anyone pal, like i said to another poster. We need a specialist LB signed first who we'll need cover for. The only way I can see Zinko leaving is it Pep promotes one of the academy, or possibly use Ake as cover.
Some of you have correctly poined out Zinko's minor LB flaws but his vision, passing and link up play are excellent. And he never goes hiding in games.

…Ake is nowhere near good enough even as cover. City need the best, a Rolls Royce LB with quality to match.

I agree. And Cucurella looks like he could be the one to finally solve a position that we have been weak in for years. I hope we sign him.

Zinchenko is bang average and anything more than £15 million is a complete waste. No chance we are targeting him anyway.

Weird to see discussion on how to improve man city in an Everton forum.

I've gone right off City in the last year or so. Don't really like them at all.

They got more decisions than the reds this season and bottled the big game again

Although I'm maybe just still bitter about the Rodri handball and Pep's interview after it lol

Think I'm more excited about seeing our released list and waving goodbye to the wasters than I am about any signings.
When you look at our strikers:

DCL
Richarlison (likely to leave)
Tosun (gone)
Kean (going)
Simms (unproven maybe loaned)
Dobbins (unproven maybe loaned)

We likely need to bring in two strikers.

I'm not so sure he's even up for sale. He still has 2 years left on his contract and his happy at the club so he doesn't have to go anywhere he doesn't want to, and I doubt he will want to tbh.

Zinchenko wouldn't go for as much as Sigurdsson but i very much doubt you'll pick him up as cheaply as what the media are saying. Besides, we should hold firm like you did when selling us Lescott and Stones. Sorry i meant held us over a barrel and extracted every last penny you could from us?

Good question on younger players. Cole Palmer will probably be given more game time next season at the expense of Mahrez and Sterling, that's if Sterling is still with us. Another exciting young un is James McAtee who's a midfielder who should get early cup round minutes and cameo league appearances when a games is won. We have another half a dozen really promising academy players around right now who need game time.

If Kompany goes to Burnley i reckon he'll be allowed to take 2 or 3 on loan, and CB Harwood-Bellis will most likely be one of them.

Thing is mate, if as reported City are offering him to clubs, then it completely changes his market value in comparison to if the player is wanted to be retained by the club.

Both Lescott and Stones are examples of this.

Think it’s going to be a tough summer.

Given that a few high earners are leaving the wage book, I’d hoped this summer would be better than last. The Esk is pretty on the money when it comes to our finances and if you read his latest blog, that doesn’t sound the case. If anything, this summer could be worse.

Obviously there are glaring holes in the team, but if we are funding them by selling Richarlison and DCL, there’s more holes.

Whilst I get why we feel we need to go for younger players (having a re-sale value), we are looking at a club that finished 16th last season and if you look at the teams around us, I can’t see any operating with them same financial constraints as us. So sadly, I think another relegation fight is a probability not a possibility. Is that really going to be an environment where young players can thrive? I don’t think so. Talk of a 19 year old centre back from Chelsea really worries me.

I’ve thought this for a while, but for me the club needs to do a deal with the premier league on profitability and sustainability. Yes we need to live within our means, stop handing out stupid contacts, buying players the wrong side of 28, but I don’t see an end to this. With profitability and sustainability running off three year losses, it’s just perpetual austerity. And everyone on this forum knows it’s something that wouldn’t impact the Sky 6. It’s a rigged system.

….I honestly can’t see Everton investing in him. After purchasing a LB recently and with limited spend, then prioritisation will be elsewhere.

I’ve always seen LB as a problem position for City, even with Zinchenko. I actually wondered if they might be interested in Digne when his stock was at his highest.

As for Zinchenko, City are offering him to clubs they think might be interested. The market will determine his worth, I expect his price will be circa £20m-£25m.

We need City to win CL/PL next season.

I'd see him as playing left centre mid in a three man midfield mate as his 'best' position, also would provide depth as he could when needed play left back if Mykolenko is unavailable, from that perspective I could see us being very interested, also Thewell wanted him a few years ago at wolves so can see why we would be a club city approached to gauge interest.

From a pure what does he bring perspective, a hard working player whose decent defensively, got pace and key for me is he's very comfortable in possession and seems to have a very good mentality too.

Ticks a lot of the boxes for exactly what we need in cm
