Chelsea's strikers can't hit a barn door between them, and they have apparently conceeded as many goals as they did in the whole of Mourinho's first season in charge. That is remarkable. Yet, they now sit just 2 points off the top of the league.. that is even more remarkable.
Citeh's away form has been patchy up until now but they seem to be getting it together now, and their home form is amazing. They have so many options. Imagine losing a striker of Aguero's quality, and then just being able to step it up a gear and put 4 more goals past the league leaders.
No chance we can match these two for the next 22 games, I'm afraid.
So far Arsenal have lost 3, Chelsea have lost 3 and City have lost 4.
Last season the Champions lost 5.
The year before that it was 5.
And the year before that it was 4.
Koscielny picked up a bad knee injury today and he could be out for the remainder of the Xmas period. Vermaelen may well be rusty and teams could take advantage.
Chelsea's defence, particularly Cech is shaky. Toothless West Ham are the only team to fail to score against them since the end of September.
City have only managed 2 wins away from the Etihad all season. The drew with Southampton and Stoke and were beaten by Cardiff, Villa, Chelsea and Sunderland. Demichelis is a weak link and Pelligini seems to prefer to play Garcia out of position rather than Nastasic or Lescott.
If we can turn draws into wins we could stay in contention. We could do with having one or two more match-winners to bring off the bench to help us achieve that.
