Everton and The Old Firm

I know Celtic where catholic and Rangers prodestant but didn`t know we where. So did we only have catholics playing for us at some point? if so ive never heard that.

No mate. Catholics just used to follow Everton more than Liverpool. Nothing exclusive, just a trend. It was probably due to the different scouting networks historically carried out by the two clubs: Libpool used to bring in a lot of Scots (Everton did too but not in as large a number as them); Everton tended to look to exploit any talent coming out of Ireland in a way Libpool never did - until maybe the 1980s. It's likely that different identities were built largely on that basis and local support broke along those lines of ethnic/cultural identification with players signed. It's a decent theory anyway.

It was never a rule - my family aren't Catholic but are all Evertonians back to the twenties at least. Davek is sorta right about the influx of players, but religious divide has never been encouraged by either club or either set of fans down here.

Our religion has been on the pitch - Everton and no other! You should've said you looked out for Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the SPL.

We're Everton we don't need to make some lame-ass partnership with a bunch of foriegn teams like the ****e do.
But that said, if you have to give an answer just say you've been to a couple of queens park or Patrick Thistle games.

It's also to do with the 19th century connection Everton had with the Liberal party (which supported home rule for Ireland) and the LFC connection with the Tory party (which opposed it). It's a tenuous thing though. I've got Catholic mates who are reds. I'm supposedly protestant and am Blue. I'm sure anyone can say the same.

I use to get freebies in the Club Deck at Rangers a few years back, magnificent stadium. The lads who sorted me out we first class, but the match day experience up their is something else. Hate filled isn't the word and not just towards the Old-Firm, the lad who came with me got racially abused twice at the Chelsea game, blatantly open about it too. He laughed it off, but we never went back, animals.

both those teams seem to attract divs from all over the uk,knob magnets only matched south of the border by liverpool and united, and like them the decent fans seemed to be swamped by the others.

Spot on, we didn't have to put our hands in our pockets with the lads who sorted us out, absolute gentlemen but it only takes a few to ruin an experience.

Just support Hibs and you cannae go wrong at the moment. Nobody hates us cos we're skint and not run by the Latvian Mafia.

The Hibees are on fire the now pal, some result last night.

Honestly though you'd struggle this season after the baws oot pumpfest at Tannadice first game of the season when it was 3 going on 10, but you've turned it round brilliantly.
