I mean I'll take the result given how the game went after we scored our second goal. I don't know if it came from Moyes or the players or a combination but this was what Moyes's teams used to do. Sit back (especially against the 'better' teams) and cede possession. How many games in Moyes's first spell when we would be one up or level and then cede the initiative and end up losing or drawing.

Obviously we have had a good run and drawing when you've been 2-0 up happens. We've had some good fortune in our recent run and I was never under the impression we would keep winning so many games, we aren't good enough. Just disappointing today as we were 2-0 up and the momentum in the game seemed to change.

I was watching the game and wondering what had changed. The players were still trying to press high up the pitch and were still putting in the effort and work. We just seemed to struggle to get any longer spells of possession of the ball where we could have slowed the play down. There also seemed a bit of a void of Everton players behind Beto. I guess it's just probably a psychological thing with the players to some extent. You're 2 goals up and you just mentally slack off a bit. You don't NEED to score to win the game. I posted earlier in the week about needing players in the future who have mentally got the ability to see what is happening on the pitch and not accept it and make a difference in changing it

The game should have been over and done with in the first half regardless of any last minute pen decisions.
Doesn't work like that. It's a game if 2 halves as they say. We tired in the 2nd. Not for the first time. Earlier subs, fresh legs would have helped. But, whatever our opinions, it was a pen and should have been given. The minimum is that the officials do it right

The Ref gave it because he thought Maguire had pulled Young down, after reviewing footage from a couple of angles VAR saw Maguire didn’t pull his jersey. So they called the Ref over who reversed the decision.

What they did miss was the reverse angles which showed very clearly it was de Ligt who pull his shirt twice and dragged him down. The overdramatic leap by Young, and his past history of falling over in the box probably didn’t help him I assume
Agree with all that summary mate👍

Some legs had gone by 60 minutes. Seen that several times this season

The issue is we were tired, and a combination of that and the ref gave them impetus. I was railing at Moyes for not making subs, but our bench was poor and the replacements weakened us in terms of ability. We simply need a bigger squad of first teamers.

Yeah we do. That'd help

Var is becoming a joke, takes so long before a decision is made. And it's time referees were interviewed to explain there decisions instead of waiting for ref watch on Sky sports watching Dermot Gallagher trying to support his fellow refs.
One of my sons, Evertonian of course, has already more or less given up on football and watches rugby union where the refs are excellent and all decisions explained.

No use crying over spilt milk. But I'm going to anyway. A forward/wide player with pace to come on at 60-70 minutes would have gone down a treat. Shame we couldn't do anything to get someone in January.

Don't agree with the last line. The overdramatic leap was what got the referees attention. That's why he gave the pen in the first place. If he hadn't, VAR would have had the result they wanted all along. They sure as hell wouldn't have asked the ref to go to the screen to see if he made a mistake by not awarding a penalty for the pull.

Yeah when you see decisions like that penalty decision, it is difficult to put it down to incompetence. Something more sinister at play.
VAR are only supposed to get involved if there is a clear and obvious error. If it was that clear and obvious why did they then call the ref over to the monitor

It's funny but in the better days before football was ruined by VAR i'd have jumped up screaming for that pen. If it was given i'd be made up, if ref never gave it i'd be miffed for an hour.
What i hate now is the 5 minute disruptions now in every game, sometimes twice in a game, that leave you fuming for a week.
Now for decisions that are so subjective it takes multi camera angles, multi screens and multi minutes to often come to a dubious decision.
Goal line technology= Great.
But for split decisions like this leave it to the instinct of the ref and linesmen.
