Everton 1992 Away Shirt Legit Check

Hello guys,

I buy and sell shirts and wondered if anyone could give me their thoughts on this 1992 Everton away shirt I picked up.

It’s missing the tag and doesn’t have the typical blue inside the Umbro diamond, but from experience of looking at shirts, it does have some quality about it, the sponsor is flock, the embossing looks of the age and the stitching of the badge looks good, which leaves me unsure about its authenticity.

Any thoughts much appreciated.

When we had Umbro last (or the time before last, I forget), a load of the old kits were released with the Umbro badge and label - I picked up the '95 Cup Final shirt at the time.

I think there's a chance this shirt was re-released around then also?

So it's possible that it's a reissue from that period. That might explain the Umbro badge not being filled blue - and being stitched on?

I believe this is how the Umbro badge looked on the originals:

Thay kit always reminds me of a league Cup game against Palace away and Watson scoring a double

Edit - i must have been smoking a joint because we had the white away strip on

I actually have this shirt at home somewhere. The umbro logo does look different material from what I remember and the colour of the collar does look odd for some reason but the rest does look good. Will have to dig it out and have a look. Mine was bought that season it is possible like said above that it was a reissue when we had our kits made umbro another time.

Everything else besides the Umbro diamond and the collar look good to me. Leads me to think it could be a prototype shirt Umbro had made up to gauge opinion etc on before it was fully released. Following that they probably decided to add in the blue in the Umbro diamond as it makes the diamond stand out more than just the white version on the salmon background, and change the collar if that is different. You do find prototype shirts on ebay now and again and seen collectors with prototypes of more of our 90's shirts before also.

Hi Thomas

I have both the original and the reissue (bought the remake before finding an original online). I think you have the reissue. Just compared my two and the original does have the blue filled in double diamond. The reissue isn’t filled in and has the stitch effect felt Umbro logo that yours seems to have. They did an amazing job with the reissues as without having a close look you wouldn’t know the difference. Attached a couple of photos for comparison.

EDIT: Looking at the logos closer it looks like the original also had the stitch effect on the Umbro logo but seems to have worn down over time.

Ditto. I am not one for wearing a football kit as an adult, but I have one of the more recent retro-remakes and still have the urge to buy an original.
Vintage kits are ok to wear if you're a adult, purchase.
Shes a beauty isn't she. I ruined mine with about 6000 pot holes in it. Made a great constellation though when I put a torch on the inside of it in the dark!
🤣

Sorry, just another couple of details. The stitching inside the collar matches up with the remake, not the original. I’m also guessing they cut the tag off as the remake has the slightly boxier Umbro logo on it which shows it is newer.
