What are these “modern ideas?” Do “young, hungry” managers have access to a treasury of secret, esoteric footballing knowledge that is off limits to everybody else?

Who exactly are these young super coaches everyone is obsessed with?
No secret, football moves with the times, there is a plethora of good young managers with progressive tactics and ideas, the Bournemouth manager being a fine example, would you want us to go for an older long term manager to take us into the future? I'm 65 myself btw 🙂

Bad year to be crap given that Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea are out of the cup already and City/United are struggling.
Exactly this, look at teams who have won trophies since `95....

Villa
Leicester (League Cup & FA Cup)
Blackburn
Middlesborough
Spurs
Birmingham
Swansea
Portsmouth
Wigan

Plus the usual lot....

Arsenal
Chelsea
RS
Man Ure
Man Citeh

Just a pity that Wazza was not their manager ,that would have been so sweet
There was a bit of ground work done at Plymouth by blues, first Schumaker and then Rooney. Shame with a lot of the usual winners going out of the cup we have to get ourselves knocked out too. Still could be worse, we could be Rangers fans!

I watched the RS vs Plymouth match today and Liverpool was flaccid all game. I get they were resting players but it says a lot about their reserves if anything.

With the FA cup and how PL clubs approach it mid-season, especially those qualifying for Europe, makes me wonder how different results would be if it was played in the summer over a month or two instead of how it is now. I suspect a lot less of the lower league clubs see a trophy.

I just don’t think age has anything to do with it. People also have completely thrown away the benefit of experience, which is extremely valuable.

Managers rarely last longer than a few years anyway, so their age should be even less of a factor.
