Have never got why German-speakers do this. Yes, W in German is pronounced like an English V, but German V sounds like an English F, so… wegetables… wtf?

I know that in their alphabet they pronounce the letter W as v-v, so for them it's a double v instead as a double u in our alphabet. I believe this may be where some of the confusion comes from.
