Europa League?

You do need to rest players now and then, but 6 or 7 is too many. 3 at the most, after all you make 3 subs in a match so it's not too many.

Then next round of games rest a different 3. For the odd easier home league game rest one or two players. You need to keep that momentum going.

Like we did in the COC ...

I agree that he made the changes and it cost us mate , for me though there is a lot of difference in making 6 changes for a cup tie a Leeds away and making the same number of changes when we've already qualified from a group and are playing fc raggedy arse from Lithuania

I'd rather win the Europa league than the COC.

Look at what AVB said it's more respected in other countries. It helped him get noticed to get the Chelsea job last year, I'd love to win it and have a chance to test ourselves against other teams in Europe and players like Falcao.

It's not worth competing properly in that tournament if it limits your chances of qualifying for Europe "properly" by finishing in the top four domestically.

If we finish 7th and qualify, I'd say go at it full guns blazing as it's a long shot that we'd make the jump to 4th in one season from that kind of finish. But if we finished 5th then I'd seriously consider playing the reserves in the Europa League and look to progress one step further.

There's no money in the Europa League worth talking about, and to be frank there's very little prestige in winning it either.
I think more important than the difference between 5th and 7th place, which could only be 1 or 2 points, would be the gap between 4th and the chasing bunch. Might be 25 points which means your a long way off still or it could be as little as 1 or 2. I think that's where a club can see if they've got options to take that next step.

you cant do that in reality though can you, spurs have been playing pretty much full strength and only have 2 points from 2 games.
Moyes plays full strength even against the **** teams in europe. were not the team that can rest players and still eek out a result,

The sheet, headlined "Discover the Drama", includes phrases such as "prestigious" and "rich in heritage"

Ffs it's the Europa league the most crap tournament ever and all because of UEFA has pooped on it. Having poor 'successful' teams that drop out from CL is why it's sh*t. The cups they had in it's place earlier were prestigious and were rich in heritage. Europa is badly poo poo. While I do appreciate clubs winning it, like Atletico etc, the group stages are a joke with CL failures playing their youth sides there. UEFA needs to stop printing leaflets and start respecting its own tournaments.

Bring in more sponsorship, promote it bigger, increase prize money, get rid of the champs league drop outs, offer a champs league spot to the winner.

You'll have a better competition.

Honestly just less games and no drop outs would do me. Straight forward knock out competition for those not in the main comp. Like it was ten years ago.

Look, I know we haven't won silverware since before I grew pubes but all I'm saying is, think what would actually happen if we DID get into the Europa league:

We'd play a game every 3 days with a squad that can barely cope with 1-2 injuries in a PL campaign.

This would leave us with two options
1) Try to compete in the Europe League, meaning that our performance in the league would suffer badly.
2) Play a youth team in the Europa League, which makes you wonder why you'd like to be in it in the first place.

I maintain that we would better off NOT qualifying for it if we can't get a CL spot this year in order to focus all our efforts on getting that CL qualification. The good thing about the CL is that even if we played a team of under-12s, we'd still get a huge amount of cash just for being in it + it's not as many games as the EL.

So you'd be annoyed if we finished 5th then, you best hope for 7th place again!!
