Hi all,

Benfica fan here from PlanetBenfica UK (slbenfica.co.uk).

I'm glad we got Everton! For one it's quite close to me so no problems with work etc, but also because I follow the premiership and I hate Liverpool, do I need to continue? :D

Looking forward to visiting Goodison, a mate has been there before and said it was excellent.

Some of our fans think they have this 'link' with Liverpool (glorious past shameful present et al), but I can't stand it to be honest, i really don't see the appeal to singing YAWN. I just hope they don't do it at Goodison cuz I really hate that song and you wont find me singing that.

If you need to know anything from the Lisbon side i'll be happy to help. We got a toffee on our forum doing just that, so you can check it out if you wish (y)

Good luck against Wigan.

Regards.

Hi .
Good luck (y)

Rapid Cheats!!!!

All Right Lads,

Thought i'd sign on to wish you all the very best for this years Europa League. Contrary to popular opinion, The Toffee Men are held in very high regard around the slopes of Paradise. Many of my fellow Tims remember the eighties and the refusal by Everton FC to bow to public pressure and remove the Tri-Colour from above your stands(y)
We also remember the treatment in '85 your guys dished out to the cheats of Rapid.

Kindof why I'm postin' on your boards really. As you'll probably have seen, we have been drawn against thos b'stards(n) again this year. 25 years since we last played them and memories are long at CP. It also brought back memories of a scene of Blue n Green at the final and a banner that made me proud to be a football fan "Rapid Cheats! Celtic should be here"

So guys, hopefully an Omen for this tourney, and this time we'll get to have the Friendly Final that never was.

All the best, See you in Hamburg

Welcome mate. I follow the Bhoys too.

Licking my lips at that tie, retribution has been a long time coming.

Nah Mate, never played them(BATE).
We did play Benfica in 06, pumped them 3-0 at home then got pumped 3-0 away.
Off the field their fans were pretty quiet and their ground is not so intimidating. I reckon your biggest worry might be AEK. They've got some pretty fanatical boys in the stands and make it quite intimidating for the opposition

Long time indeed Mate. Hopefully our current team will be well versed in past events. I know that our boards have been getting a wee bit venomous at times.

What's the furthest an Everton side has reached in the UEFA cup tournament since its start around 1955. ?

Even Birmingham City years back reached a couple of finals I think.

I don't ever remember even a semi-final place at any time, certainly never been in a final.

i think that was the 'arl 'inter-city fairs cup', which contained sides such as 'london XI'. there was only 1 club from any city allowed to compete as well. uefa started in '71.....

The UEFA Cup was first played in the 1971–72 season, with English team Tottenham Hotspur being the first winner. The 'one club per city' rule, inherited from the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, was dropped in 1975. English club Everton had finished fourth in the English league and could thus qualify but were barred from entry because city rivals the redshoite had also qualified by coming second. Everton appealed, saying the rule was an unfair anachronism, and UEFA agreed to overturn it.

Full record;

Uefa cup form 1971-08

1975/76 vs AC Milan (h) 0-0
(a) 0-1

1978/79 vs Fin harps (a) 0-5
(h) 5-0 (10-0 agg)

vs Dulka prague (h) 2-1
(a) 1-0 (lost on away goals)

1979/80 vs Feyenoord (a) 1-0
(h) 0-1 (2-0 agg)

so not mentioning that games against Dinamo Bucharest/ leige :(

When we lost on penalties to fiorentina in the last 16 that is the furthest weve got (y)
