Been trying to work this out for the past half hour and still haven’t a clue about the concept of this competition.

So if we finish 7th or win the League Cup we go into this which is effectively a “third tier” European club football competition?

Anyone care to enlighten me, is it something we should really look to avoid?

Apologizes if it’s been discussed before.

Qualification[edit]
Similar to the UEFA Champions League, qualification to the Europa Conference League will be split into two "paths" – the Champions Path and the League Path. Unlike the Champions League, however, the Champions Path will only be contested by teams which lost the qualification for the Champions League group stage and consequently have been relegated directly into the UECL.

The association ranking based on the UEFA country coefficients is used to determine the number of participating teams in the league path for each association:[6]

  • Nations ranked 1 to 5 will have one team;
  • Nations ranked 6 to 15 will have two teams;
  • Nations ranked 16 to 50 will have three teams;
  • Nations ranked 51 to 55 will have two teams;
  • Liechtenstein does not have a domestic league and will provide the winner of the Liechtenstein Football Cup irrespective of their coefficient ranking.
Based on this reorganisation, no association will benefit from more berths to continental football than they had before the 2021–24 competition cycle, with the tournament essentially being the lower orders of the existing Europa League tournament but split off into a secondary tournament.

Its for the winners of the League Cup.

Win league cup or if a winner of the league cup is already in the CL/EL 7th goes to the conference league.

Essentially same as always just replace EL for the League Cup/7th with europa conference.

Benefit of it is the competition will likely be weaker so a better chance of winning something.

Wikipedia explains it quite well.

The benefit for the English clubs will be less qualification games disrupting pre season normally having 6 games before reaching the group stage now just 2. Then the knockout round if you finish top of the group you start in the last 16 whereas finishing 2nd puts you in a preliminary round with the 3rd place Europa group teams!

I don't know if winning it would get you automatically into the following Europa league season.

One thing I read is that the knocked out teams of the CL who go in the Europa League, will then when knocked out of the Europa League, enter the Conference League. So you'll still get all the big clubs winning it.

UEFA keep changing the Europa and now this but they completely devalue these competitions as soon as you let a team from another competition come into it when they’ve been knocked out of the CL, it is farcical.

Annoying isn't it. If say the RS get knocked of the CL, then it's still on your mind that they may go on to win the Europa, now it'll be on your mind that they may go on to win the Conference League. UEFA would love them to win it

We'll be top four at the end of the season so no problem there.

We wouldn't get an 8th place.

If we finished 7th, and a team who finish below us win the cup, we'd not qualify.

For what it's worth, unlike Tottenham this season, we'd only face the 1 qualifying round.

  • 1 Qualifying round
  • 1 Group of 4 - Games
  • Joined by 8 third-placed teams from Europa League.
  • Winner of Group gets a Bye - Second place will play the 3rd placed Europa.
  • Streamlined comp. Potential run of games to final 15 games
  • Winner gets place in Europa Group Stage
Finals of the 2022/2023 to be held at two of the following.

  • Pankritio Stadium, Crete 26,240
  • Air Albania Stadium, Tirana, 22,000
  • Phillip II Stadium, Skopje, Macedonia - 33,460
  • Stade Geoffrey Guichard - Toulouse, France 42,000.

But we've also played one game, so I'm very grounded.
