English players

I think nationality identity is a fluid concept mate, there are plenty of people born and raised in England who identify as Irish - someone like Jude Bellingham has an Irish passport. Oasis we can all accept were born in Manchester, England but consider themselves Irish.

Same way say someone like Owen Hargreeves was born in Canada but identifies himself as English, or Raheem Sterling born in Jamaica but identifies as English.

I think we have to be careful not to impose our sense of nationality onto someone’s identity, which is often flues or mixed, as I pointed out two of the lads you mentioned represented a different country, so there sense of nationality onto identity may be mixed.
Ed Sheeran's all yours, chief. Fill your boots.

At the risk of sounding reform-y, I honestly think their should be more of a requirement for club's to field home-grown talent. Would be better for player development and address some of the absurdity around transfer fees.

that’s the opposite of reform that’s a pretty left wing view i would say

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but our starting XI on Sunday had an unusually high number of English players for a top flight game.

Pickford, Garner, Tarkowski, Keane, Iroegbunam, Dewsbury-Hall, and Grealish. Throw in O'Brien from Ireland and its almost like the 80s.

I don't care where our players come from, as long as they give their all, but I can't help liking the proliferation of relatively local players in our set-up. Kind of reminds me of the days before Sky invented football.
The standard of English players has gone up again relative to Europe imo
Lot of quality players not getting near the national team

Nice to see Everton with so many playing. Will be great for the Home grown when we gatecrash the CL

P.S. There will no more throwing of Irishmen...I thought we made that clear a while back!

Is it fair to say that the European pendulum has started swinging back over towards England again in recent years though? the national team in this generation has been arguably one of the best in the world for a good few years now and we continue to develop some really talented young players that next World Cup/first European championship is a case of 'when' not 'if' for me.

Anyway - my point is that English players seem to be more in demand in the Premier League now than they have been for years. Could have something to do with it? They are raised around the English game and those that go abroad invariably come back here and go on to have good careers.
Personally don't care about the nationality of players who wear our shirt, but good to see English football producing good players now. Like you say I think the England team are set to be tournament contenders for a good decade at least. As well as English players being more in demand in the PL they are also in demand abroad these days. I can remember 20 or so years ago the word was that European clubs were not interested in English players because they weren't up to it technically and tactically. That has changed now.

Veiled racism? Read the rest of my comments, particularly about Arsenal players, then give your head a thorough wobble.

Unless you think black players born in England aren’t English of course.
yeah agreed - it didn't work as intended, my mistake. I hate racism and I dont give a toss where our players where born/colour of their skin.
Apologies if I offended anyone with my attempt at humour.
