MACCA75

Player Valuation: £70m
Ok, not the end of the season yet, but only the most optimistic fan would suggest that it isn't going to end on Saturday.

Marks out of 10 and brief comments please:

Howard. 2/10 Proved that last seasons form was indeed a terminal decline. Thanks and Goodbye.
Robles. 8/10. Hasn't let anyone down at all, a rarity this year.
Baines. 5/10. Looks
unrecognisable from 3 years ago, age/injuries finally caught up with him.
Galloway. 6/10. Bright start to the season, bit unfortunate to suffer the Martinez frozen out treatment.
Oviedo. 3/10. Put the sentiment away, this is the sort of player that will relegate us.
Stones. 6/10. Seems to have swallowed his own hype and current manager is worst he could possibly have. Save the 'calm down' gestures for when you can defend properly John.
Funes Mori. 6/10. Cult hero but his performances are minimum of what I expect from a £9 million defender. Foolish derby antics.
Jagielka. 6.5/10. Like a comfort blanket, I feel better when he is there, but far from his best season
Coleman. 5/10. Like Baines, seems to have regressed. His boundless enthusiasm can't hide technical shortcomings.
Barry. 7/10. See Jagielka comments.
McCarthy. 5.5/10. We seem to miss him when he's not there but playing like a sheep in wolves clothing all year.
Besic. 5/10. Promising cameo's but 2 years in and still nothing like demands a first team place.
Barkley. 6/10. A good start but faded. Not a kid anymore and shouldn't be treated as such. Massively over-hyped.
Deulefeu. 6.5/10. A flurry of assists but seems to lack consistency, fitness and work rate. Who knows what future holds.
Lennon. 7/10. His work rate makes him a consistent 7/10 player, which often makes him our MOTM. Can't go to a higher level though.
Mirallas. 5/10. Would almost certainly be higher if he hadn't been hopelessly mis-managed for second successive season.
Cleverley. 5/10. Squad player at best. The very definition of mediocre.
Kone. 4/10. Roberto seemed to invent a left wing/centre forward hybrid position for him that should never be seen again
Lukaku. 8/10. Much improved this season, would be a 9 if he didn't look completely disinterested of late.

Osman, Pienaar, Gibson, Niasse, Browning etc, not worth scoring.

Roberto Martinez. 3/10. Even a flukey cup win can't hide his shortcomings. Time to go.

Can't argue with any of that mate, probably a couple of them could be scored even lower lol

Some of you are still on the Mirallas train eh.

He's crap. All of the talent in the world doesn't matter if you don't have the maturity and intelligence to use it.

Never mind the report card, I'm just looking forward to the end of season lap of "honour". Hope the players / staff don't bring any kids on the pitch ... it could be quite, erm, interesting / lively!

When and not if we have new management I can only assume there will be a big clearout. Obviously Howard, Hibbo, Pienaar will be gone but likely also Ossie and Gibson maybe. I would also think we would see the permanent back of Mirallas and Oviedo. Barry is just getting too old although still our most consistent midfielder. The temptation to sell Stones and Lukaku will be great and spend the money on shiny new ones. Can't see Barkley going unless he wins the euro's on his own. Kone will not last without his brown shoe'd Sith mentor.

My worry is Barry. We must get a decent replacement as neither Besic, Cleverley or McCarthy are anywhere near his standard.
Would have been good to see Ledson given a run out for the last few PL games if he wasn't on loan

The way I see it...
To go either sold, contract not renewed or retire... Hibbo, Pienaar, Howard, Kone, Gibson, McGeady, Osman and Oviedo.

Try to retain... Stones, Lukaku, and Barkley.

Keep all the youngsters... Browning, Pennington, Galloway, Dowell, Ledson, McAleny, Holgate and with guidance of Unsworth, bring a couple more of the better prospects into the first team squad.

Keep at least one more year... Jags, Robles, Coleman, Barry, Baines, McCarthy, Besic, RFM, Lennon and Deulofeu.

New manager to make the call on... Rodriguez, Mirallas and Cleverley.

That's a squad with 20-23 with youth and experience, but in need of another goalie, another quality striker, a ball-winning midfield playmaker, maybe an out and left winger... and then a top notch manager and coaching staff including a specialist defensive coach.

Everything and anything at Finch Farm that is a lasting reminder of Moyes and Martinez needs to be cleared out and the new manager given whatever he needs to totally re-educate and re-invigorate the squad.
