ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

Wonder what Carragher thinks when he reads part of the statement from that lot tonight about the spitting incident yesterday?

“Spitting deliberately at another person can carry criminal charges of assault, and Liverpool could look to ban the individual - if proven - for anything up to a lifetime”.

Next time he wanders into Anfield he’ll hold his head up high, have his laugh and a joke, no doubt sign a few autographs, and it won’t even cross his mind the irony of what he’s doing!

They won it with Henderson Fabinho Wijnaldum. They don’t bother with their midfield, it’s just well directioned diagonal punts and then they position themselves for picking up the second ball. That’s their game plan, creative midfielders aren’t necessary for them.
All midfields are important. Wijnaldum was their best midfielder: the one providing the work rate and discipline and linking the attack and defence. He's gone. At Liverpool's peak in 2019 Henderson plugged holes for wing backs powering forward and screened the back four alongside the other two. He's now struggling to get on the ball and when he does he's atrociously wasteful.

How Klopp thought Harvey Elliott could be a player who could revitalise that midfield unit is baffling; and his decision to bring in Thiago last year even more baffling. He's lost the plot. Wijnaldum would have stayed with an arm around the shoulder and more wages. Klopp just let him waltz out the door on a free transfer.

They will pay massively for such folly.

The defence and midfield are bang average-to-poor in elite terms; they're a one man band and very vulnerable because of it.

Fabinho is the key for them, like Rodri at City he’s the only specialist they really have in that role. Milner and Henderson are their only other options there. They’d be in a huge mess if they had an Everton style injury crisis and lost Alexander Arnold, Fabinho, and Salah for significant periods, they’d completely collapse. Not a single one of their fans would contemplate that occurring though whereas we are all just waiting for when Allan and Docuoure will join Richarlison DCL and Coleman on the injury list.

This season it's even more simpler than that: Salah is carrying the whole sorry lot of them. But he cant keep getting them out of trouble when the midfield and defence allow opponents to pile up chances week after week.

City v Liverpool this season 'shots conceded' / 'shots on target conceded':

City 42 / 10
LFC 75 / 22

City are practically airtight and Liverpool are being over-run...and by very average oppononts on occassion.

It simply cant carry on like that for Liverpool as City will be out of sight soon with that advantage....and there is NOTHING Liverpool can do about it, as their squad isn't strong enough to ring the changes.

What I noticed was this:

Liverpool have collected "substantial evidence" after Manchester City made a complaint alleging a home fan spat at their backroom staff in the first half of the 2-2 draw at Anfield on Sunday.

Not sure I would have fancied that job.

Firstly, spitting at someone is disgusting.
Secondly, I don't know any details about the spitter but there is a good chance he is not as privileged as the ex red that spat at the kid, but it is looking like he will be hung, drawn and quartered by the club. Possibly he will lose his job if he faces criminal charges.
The ex-player gets a bit of gardening leave and is back working on a huge salary faster than you can say "I was asleep in my room."

That goal, how on earth is it getting so much praise? ANY OTHER team player gets that goal and it is not even a thing.

Remember when whats his face ran the length of the pitch for us, beating loads of players and buried it, it was five times the goals this was, never mentioned again.

What Beckford?

Lets delve into the archives and enjoy the journalism of the Guardian here.

Then, 16 minutes from time, Chelsea's short-corner routine was lax and Beckford stole the ball from Frank Lampard on the edge of Everton's penalty area. What ensued was as breathtaking as it was ridiculous, as the striker ploughed upfield, away from flailing Chelsea players. He emerged with the ball after a couple of ricochets when the visiting pack briefly caught him in the centre circle, then wriggled free to bear down on goal. His shot flicked from Petr Cech's fingertips and might have bounced wide but, as Goodison Park held its breath, the spin turned the ball into the net.

How to make a full length of the field goal seem like a total fluke.
