He doesn't really need to be "match fit" tbh, we've seen before the difference he makes to the team when he comes in even when he hasn't played in months. As soon as they think his body is completely ready he'll be straight in. Whether it will ever be completely ready again is another story, I suspect not.
It's like getting the train because you're waiting for your car to be fixed as you think it's cheaper than getting a new one.
But the train isn't free, always delayed or cancelled, miserable, and you can only use the car twice a month went it's "fixed".
Bite the bullet. Get a new one.
