I think if you look at our good run at the end of the season you see DCL’s value. Bullying the centre backs, beating them to headers, being quicker and stronger than most of them helped us enormously and causes massive uncertainty in their back line that we capitalised on against Arsenal, United and Chelsea amongst others.

If you think Shane Long could do what Calvert-Lewin was doing for us in them games then you’d be mistaken.

Yes his scoring rate needs improvement but he’s a big asset for us even if when he’s not scoring.

He’s improved every single aspect of his game leaps and bounds since his first few appearances, I think with a little more patience we’ll also see improvements in his goalscoring.

They both run around dead hard and get stuck in, are either good enough to take us on another level? No chance, would bambi Lewin get near any other top 10 side? No chance

Goalscoring is all about confidence. When you stick a few away you start thinking less about it and it becomes instinct. I just hope Dom does exactly this because he'll be a brilliant player if he can add a finish.

Tbf I don't think he lacks confidence what so ever, he's just a gash finisher

He definitely did. He looked like he was on the cusp for most of the second half of last season

It will come, I'm sure of it. This is a critical period for him and we can't do the usual Evertonian online thing of sticking the knives in now. For once in the miserable existence of this forum we need to all pull together and support this lad, because we will be rewarded for it

Wtf are you on about, it's absolutely brilliant, particularly at the moment. People are just saying they don't want a 1 in 7 striker leading the line for us - a legitimate suggestion.

It's a weird one because at times hes shown good finishes, I know what you're saying though.

But if he strung 3 goals together in back to back games he would go from strength to strength. I also think he overthinks things when he gets in good positions so with added confidence in front of goal this will hopefully lessen.

Failed to get into any kind of goalscoring form with Richarlison, Iceland and Bernard all around him. Never going to get better service.

Touch of the dramatic perhaps and I meant it more as a joke, but we have a track record of not backing the younger players in situations like this

There are mitigating circumstances here. It's not like he's a striker in his prime years who is 1 in 7, he's a 22 year old one who has shown a lot of promise and who genuinely looks like he's on the cusp of becoming a really good striker

You have to grade him on a curve, which is what a lot on here never do with the younger players, which is ridiculous in my mind because the younger players are not the finished article yet

With younger players promise needs to be weighted against application, and it never seems to be on here
