Don't wish him anything bad, but not @rsed he's gone, couple of seasons, we'll forget he even played for us.

Cumulative effect of injuries that meant he needed a prolonged period out for recovery to try and ensure that he didn't break down physically on his return. Maybe there was some mental health issues but I think that is part and parcel of being out for a long time even if that wasn't the root cause of the non-playing - I always got the impression that the club was trying to do the best for his health and the long period out was done for his benefit so that he could come back to play.

I think he could get into a purple patch in any team set up for him and if he had a prolonged period of time of playing without injury. Who knows how it could be if he'd stayed fit and had an Ancelotti making him feel like a million dollars every time he played - he had enough to be an England international and be at the big international tournaments and have a better CL team go in for him if we couldn't have offered that.

Oh well.
