Do we need an anthem?

A few points:

1/ There's nothing wrong with songs that come directly from the people. Grand Old Team was a song originated in Liverpool schools; Z-Cars was grafted onto the club by some divvy in the Moores regime.

2/ Some have suggested dedicated singing sections: an abomination IMO and as cosmetic as you can get.

3/ North London Forever is unbelievable tat

4/ YNWA was first sung by Man United fans after the Munich air disaster in '58
Amazing Talk Sport reckoned it was the Celtic fans who first sang YNWA ala related by Alan Brazil - from the film Carousel - Gerry Marsden covered it & the Kop adopted it - ridiculous song who the hell wants to walk alone ?

The only anthem we had was We shall not be moved taken from the hit single by the Seekers back in the mid 1960s { but at that time we did well in FA Cups etc } not much use now when we exit the FA CUP early most rounds It was blasted out & the Gwladys Street chanted it in full volume 10 minutes before kick off every game ...

Talking of which I notice on most big teams 25 minutes before kick off the grounds are sparse with fans - before ticketed seats thewy were almost full 30 minutes before kick off - with rival fans on terraces - chanting their songs at each other - fans paying on the day arrived early to get their usual spec on the terraces every game .. seating has ended all that .... so IMO an anthem is not now a necessity in todays game ....

Plus our home performances at the HD stadia have been poor to say the least ....

Seeing we'll never get into the CL, let's use that tune for a bit of pomp and ceremony to greet the players.

We can even do a subtle tweak to the lyrics from:

Die Meister
Die Besten
Les grandes équipes
The champions

To appeal a bit more to split personality Evertonians:

Die Mister Moyes
Die b'stards
We'll never beee
The champions

Surely we probably actually have more songs that are more or less exclusive to us than any other team in the league.

Z cars, there she goes, forever everton, I guess that's why they call it the blues, Seen a lot of fans of other clubs this season saying spirit of the blues is great.

If the question the thread is really asking is - Do we need a dreary, self important ballad to sing before games like what the rs have so we can all make a big show out of getting misty eyed and put on a display of 'how much it means' - then the answer for me would be an emphatic no.
