Dissent against Moyes, when?

A simple thing would have to occur for me to lose faith in Moyes: the emergence of a realistic and better replacement. That's never happened. I've been disappointed with his tactics but not once have I ever wanted him gone.

Spurs at home when he went ultra defensive and we ended up getting beat (Jenas scored I think) was the first time I'd ever seen Goodison turn against him. I think that's when his cloak of invincibility slipped a bit.

Bar the 3-0 last year I don't think there has ever been another event where the vast majority of us where fuming with him. I've even heard a load of people defending what happened at Wembley.

The truth is bar the odd isolated incident he's very well liked by the rank and file. What you see on the forums(the majority of which is valid IMO, just a bit OTT) doesn't represent the reality at the ground or in the pubs.

For me it'd need to be something catastrophic for GP to turn and stay turned.

Spot on that mate & it was Jenas. He brought on Hibbo for Fernandes, he then brought Vaughan on (who everyone was calling for) after they'd scored the winner.

The only time I really lost faith in him was the Spurs game at GP when he brought Tony Hibbo on instead of Vaughany when it was 1-1 and we lost the game. He had settled for a point when Jol went for the win. I've never heard such a bad reaction from the crowd towards DM as that night .

First time for me too

Cheers. I've been a big critic for a while and I thought the 3-0 and the Wembley thing was it for me, for good but he's winning me over again.

Ive been a firm supporter of moyes, and the fact he is linked with many jobs should say what others think of him. Fergie thinks he is a very good manager, and moyes takes benchwarmers from man utd and turns them into quality first-teamers. Moyes signs top quality players but always has faith in homegrown players. Not many managers would have played rooney, vaughan, anichebe, barkley or rodwell at that age. He is one of the best managers around and 10 years here in the Prem while clubs sack managers left right and centre shows his quality that he hasnt been sacked.

the anti-moyles stuff will start up again when the 2nd half of the season goes tits-up just like it did in 05/06 when we showed almost relegation form after being 2nd in the league at christmas. its weird how he seems to shoot EFC in the foot when we are on the verge of getting it on. its always a let down- if he lets this season fizzle out like a damp squid then he deserves to be strung up by his plumps

The only time ive heard moyes ****ged at a game was during the arse 6-1. The lad got some looks and immediately got off, embarassed.

On forums, i would say things have changed in the last three seasons a bit. But then again, the communal sharing of bile by frustrated indivuduals breeds more frustration. I think most lids know the score. We're stupidly lucky to have moyes and he's very lucky to have us. Both parties fit together well, which speaks volumes on moyes as 99% of managers wouldnt chance their arm here for one year, let alone 11 - 65k or no 65k.

Is this thread really happening? Have any of you been to the 2 games so far???

You have got to admit some of his Subs and player selections can be a bit baffling? There are many many examples, but as you mentioned it.

Villa on Saturday, 3_0 up against 10 men and 1 striker.... Off comes Kneesmith for............ Coleman, ok fine, why not Knees off for Mirallas or even Big Vic? If you want to give Coleman a run out? fine, why not Neville off and let Coleman have a attacking right back role against 10 men 3-0 up and 1 striker? And finally after ruining the shape of the team, at 3-1 and Villa starting to get back into the game he admits his mistake on subs by, as usual, shoring up the defence, Jelivic off Johny H on!

Sorry if anyone can let me know what he was doing... post away.

Moyes has a lot of good points but, team selection and Substitutions leave me a bit confused at times:)

Listening to him on the radio the other night after the Villa win gives us a 6 point start and he says in answer to a question about fan expectations: "Evertonians have no great expectations. I dont think that's an issue as far as they're concerned".

He's right. A decade of his mate Kenwright - and his putting up with not having funds to push on - has just about snuffed out expectations beyond staying comfortably in the PL.

The Kenwright/Moyes years needs to be seen for what it is: managed decline.

When did I start seeing criticism of him?

Saw it fairly early on in all honesty.

I only ever lost confidence in him myself once, that was during that horrendous run of games at the end of 2005 where we seemed to be getting spanked 4-0 every week by ****e teams. I snapped after the 4-0 defeat to Villa, and things almost immediately turned around.

I know plenty of blues who have been critics for a while.

I know a couple of blues who have wanted him gone for some considerable time (I couldn't disagree more).

I get frustrated with his team selections, with his reliance on his favourites, with some of our tactics, etc. The thing is though, looking at the bigger picture, you couldn't possibly have asked for anymore from him in terms of results. That, to me, suggests that he gets far more right than he gets wrong. He's a good manager. We're lucky to have him and we would struggle to attract anyone better. Those are, for me, self-evident facts. He generally gets things right in the long run, I get as frustrated as the next man with some of the smaller details occasionally, but I'd never contemplate parting company with him as things stand.

Under any objective measure you want to use, he's doing a good job. I think most people appreciate that. Dissenters are (thankfully) still in the very small minority.
