Vellios, Duffy, George Green all should be getting their chances, but, I'm willing to bet they won't.

Never got that youth thing said about him. He's good a bringing lids through if they're good enough. I'd like to see more of Barkley mind.

Not sure that's strictly true....he seems averse to playing youngsters UNLESS there is no other option....

Barkley is arguable, however what was the reason to;

A -- Sign McFadden
B -- Play him before young players

C -- See Duffy play extremely well
D -- Drop Duffy

E -- Enjoy Velios scoring
F -- Drop Velios

Eric Dier.
Adam Forshaw.
James Wallace.

3 good prospects, all gone in the last month or so...

Eric Dier was not an Everton player to be released. He decided to go back to Sporting to gain first team opportunities.

Why is it so hard for people to grasp this. The lad was on loan, his registration belongs to Sporting Lisbon.

And all this stuff about Moyes releasing talent is a load of crap; how many youngsters that have had bags of potential are now plying their trade in the outter depths of football?? Anybody remember JP Kissock, people where furious when he was let go, where is he now?

You're about 12 hours late, Goat's got it covered, there's no problem here.

I'm more interested in why we're not producing more talented youngsters though. Without doubt the likes of Hibbo and Osman have been great for the club and every squad needs players like them, but for the club to move to the next level we have to produce young players of international standard.

Both Jags and Baines slipped through the net before being bought back later on. Rodwell has shown promise whilst of course Rooney is an obvious one. That's it though. 2 England players from our own academy in the last decade. Hardly great shakes is it. Middlesborough have done better than that.

The sad thing is that this problem is the same for all PL clubs, as the England team at the moment is (talent wise) the poorest for some time. With such a pausity of young talent we surely have a chance to steal a march, especially when we have so little money to spend on buying players, yet our record is poor.

Vellios scored primarily as a sub and was largely disappointing on the rare occasions he started. I agree Duffy was unfortunate to be dropped, but it's also equally hard to justify playing him ahead of Jags, Johnny or Distin (a few good games doesn't make a season). As for George Green - all hype at the moment - there is no evidence he could cut it at Prem level yet, he hasn't even broken into our reserves.

If players are good enough - Moyes does and will play them whatever their age - but they have to be better than what is already on the pitch.

Barkley is probably the one I would like to see more of - but Moyes and his backroom team will know more about his situation than we will. Firstly, there is the fitness issue - he's had a bad injury for a young lad - too many great young players seem knackered by the time they're in their mid-twenties nowadays - why risk his long-term future? Then there are the areas of his game that Moyes clearly wanted him to improve on, so that he can become an all-round consistent member of the first team squad. The injury meant he missed an important year in his development. The comments of Stubbs and Lumsden suggest Barkley has knuckled down for a year and improved the areas of his game that his manager wanted him to - which is exactly how it should be. Expect to see more of him this season I reckon.

Interview with him on the world service yesterday. Didnt mention Everton once. Said he was looking forward to playing first team football in Portugal and felt the standard of youth training was better over there. Then said his dream was to eventually play in the premiership... for ManU.

Made his debut 2 days ago, against Braga, providing the assist for the only goal of the match.

I personally didn't think that much of him looked a bit heavy and slow what I seen of him, admittedly not much mind. He reminded me of a young (but worse) Richard Dunne
