Many of our youth signings have been peculiar to be honest. This kid joins the likes of Mustafa and Silva who have arrived full of promise and vanished with a whimper. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Junior didn't go the same way.

Are we unusual in that regard? I'm sure the RS signed a boat load of young spaniards during Benitez's tenure, none of whom have become first teamers (although that Suso is meant to be tasty).

I'm sure the majority of academy signings at Premiership-level fail to make the grade. It's just the nature of the beast. We've had Coleman, Gueye and Vellios all make waves to varying degrees in recent memory. I reckon we're doing alright.

Wasn't this the lad who's registration is held by an agency rather than a club?

I thought everyone knew that he was just being 'parked' at Everton for a spell until he could be moved on somewhere? That's my understanding of the 'deal' that was cut a while back.

No, i think Sporting bought the remaining amount out recently, so they owned him outright.

I was mislead by the thread title............. i thought it was a dyslexic Dear John letter.

Sorry mods..........Dier is boss like.

As I said when the details of the loan were made clear, it just makes no sense at all.

We've essentially paid for a Lisbon player to have a good training experience.

It was a strange one, I'll give you that, but I think using the word 'paid' is a bit over the top. The academy system is already in place and I'm not sure it will have cost us anything like a significant amount.

We paid his wages for Lisbon, whilst essentially just training him for Lisbon.

Is he on a significant wage? (not a rhetorical question.)

I can only guess we were hoping to turn his head, and the financial implications were not anything significant, so worth taking the risk.

I'm only speculating though. Or maybe we were just shy of a centre-half in the youth ranks.

Suso means tits in tagalog.

Hopefully the good will we've earned with Lisbon will pay off at some point. First option on a player or something. If it doesn't then I agree, it's a bit of a strange one. Could also be that we were trying to curry favour with the agency that had something to do with his registration too.
