Derby - Win, Lose or Draw ?

I don't think there's a manager in world football that EFC could attract to the job that could in all honesty.

There's a lot of really talented managers working in places like Chile and Spain who would walk over hot coals for the kind of spending power, wages and exposure a big EPL team can offer.

The only question mark is culture shock and language, really.

not been here long name me one please

Its a regularly discussed subject mate : "who could do better than Moyes".

Unfortunatly the answer is totally subjective, there is no right or wrong answer, everyone has their own opinion on it and it seems thats you think there is no manager who could have done better, or could do better than Moyes has and your mind is made up.

There are numerous managers in football around the world, but whenever they get suggested as a possible alternative to Moyes its the same excuses that get used : "they'd never come here", "they need money" , "they got so and so relegated" , "they'd never put up with Kenwright", "they've never done exactly the same as Moyes therefor never could" and so on.

Its all ifs and buts, and the only way to ever know if a different manager could do things better is to actually make the change (not that i'm advocating it). There are numerous managers who have at this stage a better cv than Moyes had when we appointed him, sure it doesn't mean that all of them could do better but it shows how ridiculous it is to write off more experienced and successful managers and say they couldn't do what an inexperienced unproven manager could.

And yes, whilst what Moyes has done at Everton has not been replicated elsewhere neither have the exact curcumstances he done it under, so many differing factors as well as a managers ability determine how well they do in a job. For example, Di Matteo once had WBA on a run of 1 win in 12, yet he's now a FA cup and Champions League winner, so does that mean he's gash or awesome? Neither, cause its not as simple as that.

So there you go, if you think Moyes is the only man who could do what he done/does then fair enough, but plenty of people don't and we'll never know who's right.

You're missing the point, mate. Those teams are awful and have awful managers, they couldn't even manage to not get relegated.

And yet they've done something Moyes couldn't. Surely that tells us that he's worse in cups than he should be. The list of lower league teams to knock us out tells us that too.

I'd quite happily finish 12th rather than 7th if we could get a manager who can win when it actually mattered (cup games derbies etc). League position is meaningless unless you're in the top 4 or bottom 3.

Nonesesne, have you seen this place or any other EFC FORUM for that matter when we dont win it is horrible, I feel ****e till we next play, I dont wanna hear football, its off with SSN, off with talksport the lot, when we lose it hurts and I want that consistancy that can only happen in the league, along with the money per postion which allows us to spend the little we do. We are not going to agree I wont back down and neither will you, I love Everton and Moyes has been fantastic for us, and no-one has mentioned one manager who could have done what he has done or will do a better job in the future from TODAY.

Nice post mate, but go on name yours. not what is definately right, but yours who could takeover this minute and POTENTIALLY do a better job and who could have taken over in '02 and done a better job

Nah it was definatly luck when we lost to Shrewsbury, and Tranmere, and Reading, and Leeds, and Brentford, and Oldham.

I was at Shewsbury like.

It was unreal that day, I just recall Rooney looking terrible and Alexanderson running up and down the wing, doing basically nothing, was weird to be standing all game, I miss the terraces.

Never mind failure to win trophies, is there any decent theory why he's so shit at the Derby? I've mentioned that his record compared to our other managers who've had longevity isn't good because they didn't face (apart from HKI + II reign) vast investment disparities. But that only gets you so far when you think of the way Liverpool have pretty much wasted that advantage.

They capitalise on their luck though.

We go a man down and they spread the ball more adding width, move our players around and keep us on the back foot.

If they went a man down we'd keep defending and playing football like scared 12 year olds meaning the advantage is virtually useless.

Hes not ****.

The players dont perform, we have a lot of foreign lads, who probably grew up hearing about this Liverpool team and watched Istanbul lad.

Play a team of Scousers.

Ottmar Hitzfeld, Otto Rehhagel, Felix Magath, Jorge Sampaoli, Dick Advocaat, Louis van Gaal, Manuel Pellegrini etc are all massively successful football coaches who have recently worked at relatively unsuccessful clubs. Why couldn't we attract someone of that stature given we pay the ninth or tenth best managerial wages in the world?

No if about it, it happned in benitez's last year.

Wigan have a team of foreigners and tend to turn them over easy enough.

I think there's a fear there though, yes. I'd say that defo plays a part.
