Derby - Win, Lose or Draw ?

I'm 22 and I've seen us win a mere 3 derbies. One was in the cup (Gosling), the other were the home games, the Carsley and AJ derbies if you will. I may be wrong, but even so I'll probably only have missed one or two.

Us younger lot never got to see us spank them regularly, I'm never optimistic going into a derby, no matter how gash they are playing. I've heard the commentator scream GERRARRDDD far too often.

Since I've been watching football in early 1994 (1-0 up then rush and fowler scoring within 2 minutes) I've seen (not all in person)
- royle's first game
- kanchelskis 2-0 1996
- cadamarteri 1997
- Campbell 1999
- carsley 2004
- aj 2006
- gosling 2009
- the win in 2010.

Is it bad that i can rattle off all the derby wins out of nearly 20 years?

I do wonder...and I'm doing to get shot down for this of course ....it's a massive deal to us (hence this thread), unless we get to an actual cup final or are playing for 4th at the end of the season one could actually call this our 'cup final' as its seen as the most important game of the season.

I know they laugh at us about it but maybe they have a point? To them united is that important ( and they generally perform under that pressure) , their games against us are sort of local pride but not that big a deal - they expect to be in actual cup finals and see it as just another game with a bit more edge. They perhaps go in a bit more relaxed.

We go out and get someone sent off very regularly, and end up with 9 men occasionally which is very rare - is that down to seeing it as the be all and end all? They feel under loads of pressure and crumble...

Yep, if we're involved in relegation fights or battling out for the league title, derbies don't matter. But they do when you're midtable.

I don't mean it shouldn't matter, I just mean a slightly more relaxed 'businesslike attitude' might get us through...and keep 11 men on the pitch!
