Historical league game outcomes from the Merseyside derby.
Everton win - blue, Liverpool win - red, Draw - yellow

I pray that for the first time in as long as I remember we really put them to the sword. Too many times I've thought they're on the ropes ready for a good beating, and we don't turn up.

This derby is THE test for Moyes.

Since his re-programming at Swansea last season he predictably still fcked up in 2 derby games ruining an otherwise good end of season.

Equally worrying amidst the Moyes MK2 evolution was the Leeds cup defeat simply because it was another predictable arse up from the Moyes back catalogue.

Now we may well go down against the reds, there's no guarantees, but if we go down like shthouses again instead of making a fight of it he needs a slap.

This game is psychological battle.
Moyes just needs to set the players into right mode. This squad can hack it.
and positions in the table has nothing to do with this game, we all know that

It starts around 90-96 IMO.

I think we hold our own in that period, tbf: W5 D6 L6.

In fact, we do the same in the next mini-period from 1997-2000: W2 D4 L2.

But from 2001 on it's a car crash: W4 D7 L15.

Incredible when you think they haven't won a title or put together a great - or even very good - team in that period. We have to turn this tide soon. It's abysmal.

Dunno if you're popcorning, but I think they've had some amazing teams since 2001; how many trophies did they win aswell...3 in one year if I recall correctly. They also won the Champions league, and that team that finished 2nd was one of the best in Europe.

Safe to say they have been far superior than us since 2001, until the last 2 or 3 seasons.

WHOA WHOA WHOA 2001 you say?

"Kenwright's consortium bought 68% of Everton F.C. from Peter Johnson for £20 million in 1999."

From 1999
W5 D8 L17

Suddenly, it all makes perfect sense.

Well, it might be so that they've picked up (2005 aside) low hanging fruit trophy-wise, but the point I'm making is that compared to other periods when they were lording it over everyone the last twenty years we could expect to at least manage this fixture. We did for the first half of it, but haven't in the second half. I think that's a fair enough assessment, tbh.

Yeah, that ball bag and his fellow parasites don't help, for sure.

0-1
Suarez (pen) 90'+6
Neville 54' (Sent off, two footed lunge)
Hibbert 90'+5 (Sent off, second bookable offence, gives pen away)
And it will be a dive
