Derby Buildup: Evertonian writes "Liverpool deserved their success"

Did Liverpool deserve their successes, at the expense of Everton, in the 70's & 80's?

I've been a regular reader of The Guardian's football pages for years. When I discovered we've got an Evertonian as a regular writer I was chuffed! We've had to live with ex-reds whoring out TV punditry positions forever, that at least we can have a blue writing for a respected national paper.

But no! It's never that easy with us, is it? Turns out this writer knocks us down even more than Moyes ever did. The latest stunning example:

But people will want to see the very top teams taken down a peg, that is in the nature of competitive sport. That is perfectly healthy. Apart from a few thousand Evertonians no one really begrudged Liverpool their success in the 70s and 80s. They deserved it.

So I thought let's have a poll to see how typical this opinion among blues really is. Maybe I'm just too full of hateful jealousy & mindless bile and don't respect Liverpool's achievements enough like normal balanced football fans do.

:toilet:

So...let's find out how common this Evertonian's view is amongst GOT blues (for this place must offer the most varied collection of blues on the internets).

Well of course they deserved, it. They were the best team and the best teams get the trophies. that's how football works.

Doesn't mean I don't wish it had been someone else or that they never win anything again but instead get relegated or go out of business, because I do.

But I'm not going to ask uefa to take their trophies off them, Lance Armstrong style. Except maybe that league cup they won by a handball, we can have that.

You win more points over the course of a season than any other team, you win the league.

You win every knockout cup game, you win the cup.

You win less points than everyone else you go down.

Aside from a ridiculous instance of luck in a cup final, say, you deserve everything you get in football. Whether that's because you've got the best team, you've used the best tactics or (sadly) you've spent the most money.

To point out all the occasions the horrible tits got lucky or a bent ref pulled them out the shiit would be churlish, so I wont.

Edit - It weren't really at our expense either, the majority.

"We don't care what the redsh*te say..."

The next week is going to be unbearable enough without doing sh*t like this to ourselves.

The expense thing I think is less that we were runner up to them, which only happened, I think, three times. But that their success is one of the reasons Everton has stumbled since then. Which I think is undeniable. It does make us a less attractive club.

true...normally i'm banging the "stop the red obsession" drum. But in the buildup to the derby i think it's fair game.

Responses surprisingly reasonable so far...

Fair enough.

Not really @ssed about Liverpool's success in truth.

If someone wins a league, it's seldom by luck. You can fluke a cup final, but teams rarely fluke their way into one.

I'm only ever @ssed when they get suspect decisions in derbies, or our Everton give a sh*thouse display against them in derbies.
