Along with CB, DM was my other major concern going into this window. Other than a fleeting interest in Tyler Adams (who is going to Leeds), we haven't really been linked to any players in this position.

I see people shoehorning players like Zinchenko into this role in their jarg 11s on here. I kind of want a specialist in this position.

I've got to admit with around 4 weeks till the season starts and the squad jetting to America next week, I'm becoming more and more concerned. Anyone else share my position?

I don't even think its injuries, I think one of the many reasons we struggled at times last season because we don't really have anyone disciplined and specialised enough to play the role.

I’d even accept the new Delph if he could play most weeks, we all saw what a difference it made having him sit in front of the defence for a handful of games at the end of the season

When we are linked to a DM mate you can be the one to open the new transfer thread for a change instead of commenting on it being: “a kiss of death”.

If we're playing 3 centre halves the number 6 role is very different. One of the centre halves is effectively playing the defensive part, and you then need either a quarterback style DM or a box to box midfielder. Doucoure could potentially play the latter role.

We're making no signings other than freebies because of ffp. The takeover chat is an excuse for inaction. We advertise gambling. Next season doesn't look promising and the league will be won by a Saudi or a US business. Football has eaten itself, it doesn't matter so move on. Its not worth getting wound up about.

Totally agree, it’s a key position, it affects everything else. People kept moaning last season that Alan and Doucoure were poor. But really it was that we kept playing 523 with no DM and they were out manned in the middle time and time again.

We were linked with Cheick Doucoure from Lens at the start of the window. Palace have had a bid accepted of around £18m a week ago, but it hasn’t moved forward. Maybe we could be back in for him?

Either way we need someone in that role, not sure if Gbamin can do it and Onyango would be the back up. Frank didn’t seem to fancy that last season so we could be stuck playing 523 unless we sign someone.
