I would say it was a number of things:

1: Statement signing to encourage others to join (failed).

2: Short term boost to get the team into the top half of the league and possibly europe (currently failing)

3: A shift from direct attacking quick football to slower buildup (success, which is a fail).

4: Mentality change in the squad

5: Vanity signing by Moyes

6: The fee was £15mill paid to City, we dont pay his wages, City do. This kicks the can down the road for a season when we have time to search for a replacement or for Dibling to take the right and Ndiaye to have the left next season.

Losing to teams like Shrewsbury, the year they were relegated from the football league, losing 0-3 at home to Wigan, the year they were relegated from the PL, getting knocked out of the EFL cup by Wolves this year, the only game they`ve won, might be showing he might be a part of the problem.

Or maybe sometimes teams just lose football matches? Are your sheets still wet 20 years later?

Totally agree, but. If you’d just bought a house, knowing that the living room windows were smashed, the back door hanging off its hinges and the roof was missing tiles, would you prioritise spending your remaining money on planting a very expensive shrubbery, that might flourish in a couple of years ?

Unless there is recognition of what we need right now, purchases for the future are pretty meaningless.

To have Ndaye and Grealish, but not address the basics of what was actually required to make them effective, is brain dead planning. The answer was never Coleman, Barry, Myko, J o’B, Patterson, or Beto.

Or Dibling. That must have been someone’s ego trip. Hopefully, whoever made those decisions, doesn’t get to make any more.

I take your point mate. I think if you asked many in the summer mate they would have said the priority opposition was the right wing, everyone was desperate for it really. Ironically its probably turned out that our biggest investment has returned the least mins. Although i would say Grealish is still our biggest investment from a value point of view.

So whether we should have done Dibling or night in hindsight is worth reflection. I feel there is a lot of soul searching now on transfer strategy, p[probably to a man at the start of the summer everyone wanted to ivnest in young players and develop them to future proof and provide value and longevity. The rub and the sway for many now, is results. If Dibling goes on to get double digits next season doesnt interest people right now or tonight when we go to the Bournmouth house of horrors.

Also the squad is strating to show its fraility as injuries, Afcon and suspensions bite, ive coniuously made this point even in the summer on the likes of McNeill, Diblin, etc. Its why in the summer i felt offering new deals for Doucoure was usful - we could have done with him on Sat and tonight in the engine room. While also we shouldnt turn our noses up at the likes of Soucek. As the team on Saturday looked devoid of leadership or Savy to get a foot hold in the game.

Strategically however and taking passion out of it, the club isnt going to progress in the future without some sort of players trading model, we are backing ourselves in the medium terms to turn Aznou, Dibling, Rohl, Charly and Barry into 40-60 mill+ footballers for resale - you can proabably throw Illy and Jarad in there to. The recruitment is as much as investing in income generation as it is in playing. It hasn't come of as yet, but was expected to within 3 months............

The club of course needs to spend, my own take is im tired of the club penny pinching, if you want a forward go pay the money for one - we know 30 mill gets you Beto and Barry as a project. If you want full backs go out and pay 30 mill each on one and have them for 10 years. Same with central midfield. Spending 90 -120 mill a year on four players should be within our scope in my opinion. The difference between us and Newcastle on Saturday is they have been dong that for five years now, we did it one summer - i agree with Moyes if im honest, Newcastle have beeter quality then us - Hall, Livamento, Bruno, Woltemade are infinitely better then anything we have, while they bring on our former £45 mill sale, in Gordon and Tonali, such a difference in depth. Its where we need to get to.

I feel our squad depth and injuries and AFCON is going to be very undermining this winter. It will separate the league out. Im not optimistic as things stand.

I always thought we should have won the Europa League in 2008, but the pathetic tactics in Florence of kick the ball straight to their defence eff'd that up, even Rangers managed to knock out Fiorentina. We'd already beat the eventual winners in the group stage as well.

A nice dull mid-table finish, then we move on in the summer. I like Moyes, but I just don’t see the long-term plan with him. There are big question marks over how he fits with the current recruitment team and how he’d handle young players if the owners rightly want to go down the route of making signings for the future.

If moyes could go the entire match without subbing KDH, Ndiaye or Grealish he would, he seems overly reliant on them being on the pitch , so I get irked when people start theorizing that dibling or alcarez are failed signings they're not , Moyes is a creature of routine who continues to use players he is comfortable with at the expense of others

Everton beat Newcastle at St James’ last season and drew at home, while Newcastle were flying high in the league. Moyes comments about their superiority as an excuse for our butts getting whipped doesn't make any sense. Do we take it as a failure or plucky little Everton got shown where they belong? Today it’s Bournemouth, will it be plucky little Everton today?

You can think finishing 6th or 7th and the odd cup semi and a last 16 in Europe as some amazing achievement, but I don’t

It's more likely that we will need two keepers than we would ever throw in any of the U21s. We would always just change formation/play senior players out of position.

Two of those 'out of position seniors' places are taken up by goalkeepers - meaning we have 3 goalkeepers.
If you think that's beneficial then I think you're in a massive minority.

The point is though, if you’re at a point where you’re even considering putting a second keeper on the bench then the other player in the mix has clearly got absolutely no chance of coming on, so it makes no difference. Like if we’d put braiden graham on the bench on Saturday for example, there’s just no way on earth he’s coming on ahead of dibling Beto or McNeil so in reality him being on the bench gives you absolutely no more options at all. There were already 2 outfield players on there who had no chance of coming on, what’s the point in making it 3?

Sod it, bang George Pickford on and lets have four keepers in the match day squad.
