2025/26 David Moyes

Big fan of the using Euros to make the number look bigger thing.

But agreed. On the subject of money spent, Dyche’s current squad cost £400m, so what can we expect from that game?
 I'm in Germany - I don't have pound Sterling signs on my keyboard...

Are you that paranoid about the monies spent?

As for our previous manager, I couldn't care less how he fares. I'm still not fighting the last war, you see. Take your own advice, Mike. Give yourself a day off. Your obsession with Dyche is unhealthy.

That’s odd, I’m in England and I have pounds, dollars and euros signs on mine.

Ok let’s get back onto the subject of money spent, which you brought up. How much did United spend upgrading their squad in the summer? So far I can only be bothered to add up the £180m spent on forwards alone, I know they bought a keeper as well so I’m just curious how this compares to the very generous £100m Moyes was given to overhaul our entire squad.

Waving the white flag already, are we? Thankfully, money spent doesn't exclusively dictate the result in every single football match. That's why we still watch.

Nobody demands a win next time out, Mike. But maybe ONE win in 48 attempts might not be beyond the Moyesiah. We live in hope.

No, I didn’t think you’d answer.

Honestly the league has advanced considerably in terms of competition since his first spell. To me it sounds dirty to say even with our recent mediocrity but top half would be a great season.
Martyn
Coleman Jagielka Lescott Baines
Arteta Osman Fellaini Cahill Pienaar
Yakubu

Makes mincemeat of 90% of this league. Took him his while to assemble it, (granted GK aside) it's such a shame Yakubu popped his achiles. In fact, to run a parallel, it's also a shame a stress fracture in his ankle finished Nigel when it did.

To face the obvious changes in the league, the 5 subs thing would bite, it took us all his time to get a solid 11 together, and the stockpiling of talent that never plays for the parent club would be an issue. The perennial pauperdom of the first term isn't hanging over us now, 34/35k is now 52k + corpo establishment hoi polloi.

Prior this season, we had a squad, (even including players on loan that we didn't pay for) rank as 19th in terms of valuation/player fees. Only Ipswich had a squad of players worth less than us (by last transfer fee).

We really were on the bones of our arses.

The squad we have now is capable of a lot more - and should be 7th-12th. Which it is.

Bring in some actual full backs/balance, bring in some pace and a decent striker and we go comfortable top half.

Easy, this football lark.

But does our squad rank 7th-12th in terms of valuation? I’d be interested to see those workings out.

No idea.

If we include the likes of Grealish last transfer fee (like it included Broja, Harrison, Lindstroms etc when we ranked 19th for squad valuation last season), then yeah, probably.

When you swop Doucoure for Dewsbury-Hall, Harrison for Grealish and spend a club record amount in the summer, expectation is rightly going to increase.

I’m guessing that’s a no it doesn’t.

Also I’ve just double and triple checked and this is still our club record spending transfer window.

We made a lot of money that window.

We also spent a record amount though, if we’d sold Branthwaite for £70m this summer I’m sure it wouldn’t stop people using the “we’ve spent £100m” thing. We haven’t had him available as it is this season so the only difference it would’ve made to where we are right now is on the balance sheet.
