2025/26 David Moyes

I get why he doesn’t start for that reason. But we end up chasing nearly every game or even if we are level, we are under the cosh for a long period.

At that point, he is pretty perfect for us to play direct and break out. Like vs Palace. But bringing him on with 7 mins to go and 4 mins to go the game before when chasing the game is then pointless when he usually becomes our biggest threat.
Needs to grasp those opportunities or he won’t get in the starting 11 😂

Hmm…

A Reddit thread specifically about Alcaraz at Juventus complained that the team’s style didn’t favour his strengths: “With our style we don’t do much ball possession … our defence lines out of the ball are extremely low so when we are able to get the ball we run as fast as possible towards the opposite side of the pitch.”

Have you got a link to this?

Locatelli, McKennie, Rabiot, Fagioli, Miretti arent exactly "fast as possible" driving midfielders.

Oh I agree on the sub thing, if you are going to bring him on then give him a proper run of 15-20 mins or whatever not less than 10 mins.

He'd slot in lovely to our midfield.

Oh, as a manager?

Yes manager. I liked the last Ajax manager Francesco Farioli as well.

With Fabregas i think he wont be slotting into the Arsenal job quite yet with Arteta there and that would leave Barcelona moving out Hansi Flick, unlikely.

So we could have him for a few seasons if we managed to get him.

The odd thing about that though is even in Moyes' setups if he is played in a position that suits him (centrally) and has time on the pitch to operate he typically does pretty well. The more baffling part is that Moyes refuses to acknowledge when he does something positive or if he does it's a half hearted gesture like playing him on the wing at the city game
Moyes wants a bit more from players though and he has struggled in other areas of the pitch. He has had some moments in centre I do agree but I certainly don't rate him like some on here seem too I won't hide that. It's clear Moyes doesn't fancy him and folk need to remember that there is no guarantee that the next manage will either. I'm sure he will see some more game time during the AFCON and he will need to make himself undroppable basically and give Moyes a headache.

“Yes he'll play a lot. It is the reason why we signed him, especially after the draw against Empoli where Miretti offered another horrible performance. He's going to start as a sub, but if he'll play well I can see him in the starting 11 with McKennie moving back to the right side of the midfield.

“The way you described him fits to our playing style imo. We don't do much ball possession, our defence lines out of the ball are extremely low so when we are able to get the ball we run as fast as possible towards the opposite side of the pitch, sort of counter-attacking style (or pure counter if there's enough space).

“Probably the biggest flaw seems his inconsistency throughout the game as you described him”

This quote was also instructive!

“Half the time he runs into an opponent. His first touch gives it straight back to them. His pass is misplaced. His shot is wide.”

Fan favourite due to his all-action style. If he's well coached he'll be a good player in the right system.

Juventus fans note... this guy doesnt play posession football. He doesnt pass backwards.

He gets that ball he runs. It doesnt matter if there's space or not, he'll run with it. He'll pass forward, he'll shoot, he'll dribble.

Half the time he runs into an opponent. His first touch gives it straight back to them. His pass is misplaced. His shot is wide.

The other times...? He takes a world class first touch, dribbles past 3 defenders, then smashes it top corner.

Fans will love him, manager will hate him

-so this above about a 20 year old player at the time, 50% world class.

That was a different quote from a Southampton fan. And don’t get the world class part - he couldn’t get a game at Juventus and got relegated from the Premier League!

You didnt watch him. Just look what normal southampton fans said about him online.

The Juventus fan doesnt strike me as an italian with that description of how they played.

I didnt really read the messages as its very late here.

Can't see too many changes he can make - incremental ones like giving Alcaraz more time, perhaps Rohl too. Stop swapping strikers so much.

He's not dropping NDiaye, Grealish, Gana, Garner, O'Brien, Keane, Tarks, Pickers or Myko unless he is forced to.
