Little Ralphy
Player Valuation: £15m
There’s never any hope with Moyes. If there is anything on the game he’ll bottle it in some way. He’s also tactically inept and the way football is nowadays, teams are much more tactically savvy. Moyes has always just changed like for like and hoped it’d change. He’s being out thought by managers every week.
I remember the cup final he had osman and Hibbert against Cole and Maluda. No pace against rapid players. To change it he swapped Jacobsen for hibbert and obviously nothing changed. Eventually he replaced osman with gosling, who also had zero pace. Like for like subs. When Chelsea played arsenal in the champions league, Cole was at arsenal and to stop him getting forward with Pires, Ranieri played Gronjkaer high so Cole had to stay back. It worked. Moyes had both Vaughan and Rodwell on the bench who were both athletes and could have changed the approach against the Chelsea left side.
He hasn’t changed at all. He just swaps like for like, Beto for Barry etc. his teams never have any pace, the two players I mentioned earlier - Vaughan and Rodwell were academy boys, players he signed were never quick. It’s a weird way to build a team with zero pace, especially in today’s game. It means we have to work hard to score a goal and any mistake is punished as no one has any pace to cover.
He’ll always manage his reputation above all else, if the team does well it’s down to him against all odds, if it does poorly it’s because he hasn’t got the tfr budget. Truth is he spent £100m on players he rarely players last summer. At Man Utd he had a tfr budget and bought fellani. At West Ham he filled their team with aging slow players. It’s what he does. He’s comfortable living without expectation. He can’t handle anything else.
We all expected a fresh start with the new stadium and new owners. He’s taken us back to the Kenwright years, plucky little Everton fighting against the odds. Everton has been a job for life for anyone we have signed. Keane has been at Everton for 10 years ffs. Unless a player wants to leave we seem to keep them forever. Everton need a massive regime change, someone to come in and change the whole outlook of the club. All the ‘B’ clubs and now Sunderland all seem to have a more forward thinking way of running the club, and they’ve over taken us. More clubs will do the same unless Everton finally get with the times and move on.
