2025/26 David Moyes

What i noticed today. As someone who likes to have a bet. Last few years Everton have only been in either the to be relegated or finish bottom 8 betting markets.
I looked today. Everton are in one betting market. To finish top 6.
Thats the job he's done in 14 months.

Yep, that’s the benchmark of fairness. Take a relegation threatened team to European contenders in 14 months and now progress can only be proven if we beat our local rivals and a team who have finished ahead of us every season since they gained promotion.
It's amazing how supporters of a team mired in mostly mediocrity for 30 odd years really struggle with moderate objectivity! 😆

It's the ever present dissonance of being a toffee
We badly need some success if only to find some temporary balance

Agreed mate… One step at a time.

Learn to crawl before you walk, learn to walk before you run, etc, etc…

We’ll get there…

Think it’s Pickford who’s overachieving as we can see most weeks (barring Arsenal ☹️)

I'm a little concerned that European qualification is now seen as the benchmark for what should be considered an acceptable outcome this season.

Don't get me wrong, I'll be disappointed if we don't manage now that we are in with a realistic shout, but a perfectly acceptable outcome this season for me, before a ball was kicked, given where we'd been finishing for the last few years and the relative spend in the summer would have been a comfortable 10th-ish position

I still think that would be ok, and I don't want to lose sight of that if we don't end up getting Europe and I do have to keep reminding myself that it would have been totally unfair to expect European qualification as a minimum outcome this season before the season began.

The flip side is that if Moyes achieved Europe at the first attempt, there really isn't much of a debate about that new contract - it'll just be a case of how long.
But if you can keep moving the goal posts so you never have to say he's done a good job why not?
