2025/26 David Moyes

To get Europe he is going to have to beat some of the teams above us rather than setting up not to lose.

It will be interesting to see if he has it in him.

Unfortunately beating Chelsea isn’t going to get us Europe as good as the performance was & credit to Moyes for finally getting it right at home.

The question as always with Moyes/Everton (& many other teams) is can they keep it going when the opportunity is there & the pressure is on.

The next 4 games should answer that. 🤞

The derby is a bell weather for me. They’re in rancid form and we’ve been playing well. Brighton routinely dispatched them at home and they’re aiming for the same spots we are. Fulham got a result against them. Brentford beat them at home. Chelsea beat them at home. Bournemouth beat them at home.

They’re all the teams in and around us. We absolutely should be going out to beat them as they all did rather than turning this into a gigantic event and come out absolutely paralysed for the first 20 mins like we do in most derbies. Play their 11 and not their badge and we win the game.

So the new owners may get us a world class manager after DM - just look at Spurs that's worked out well as an example more richer than us yet fighting for their lives !
Spurs have got a lot more problems than that mate, they have been on the slide for years. Levy was acting like Moshiri/Kenwright when Brands and them were here and constantly overriding them with decisions and transfer deals making it pointless bringing these people to the club in the first place.

I'm a little concerned that European qualification is now seen as the benchmark for what should be considered an acceptable outcome this season.

Don't get me wrong, I'll be disappointed if we don't manage now that we are in with a realistic shout, but a perfectly acceptable outcome this season for me, before a ball was kicked, given where we'd been finishing for the last few years and the relative spend in the summer would have been a comfortable 10th-ish position

I still think that would be ok, and I don't want to lose sight of that if we don't end up getting Europe and I do have to keep reminding myself that it would have been totally unfair to expect European qualification as a minimum outcome this season before the season began.

The flip side is that if Moyes achieved Europe at the first attempt, there really isn't much of a debate about that new contract - it'll just be a case of how long.

I always viewed Spurs as modern pretenders. They really weren't very good leading up to the ownership change, and then due to Redknap, and lucking out on Kane, ended up punching above their weight while still managing to win almost nothing. I figured once the luck ran out they'd return to being more mid table. Now for them, they capitalized well on their period of success and greatly increased their revenue from it, but success on the field is a different matter.

It wasn't great in one of the games if I remember, but that's also International Football and its very different to club football.

I agree. Carsley looked like he hated the media duties and the spotlight with a passion when he was in the England caretaker role. Think he's more of a Harvey than a Kendall. Would have loved him to join Moyesy as his assistant though.

Levi took us to the cleaners a few times comparison between him & The Mosh & BK is wide of the marke as those two nearly bankrupted the club & relegated us !

The comparison is not wide of the mark you just didn't understand what I was saying. It was about how things were being run on the day to day basis and both boardrooms were overriding the footballing staff at times mate. That's got nothing to do with the nearly bankrupting/relegation/PSR, I mean the lack of money was down to a war starting which there wasn't much we could do about that was there.

We had offshore loans classed as loans in the UK if the new owners had not had the financial clout we could have easily gone bust - the 777 debacle etc etc left us very little options on who purchased us - We have come on leads & bounds under DM even he has stated someone else will take us further hopefully...

We’d have ceased to be if 777 had got their hands on us.

I don't think we'll end up getting Europe and I'll still consider this a really successful season in the circumstances. For me this was always about consolidation -- a safe mid-table finish represents real progress.

Im one of Moye's biggest critics but fair's fair, he seems to have learned a bit from his square peg round hole craziness and has this starting 11 playing very well and working hard for each other. It helps that we are only having to play every two weeks but that is the hand we have been dealt and we are taking advantage of it. Yesterday was the marquee win Ive been hoping for. Great feeling!
If he REALLY wants to win us ALL over, he has the perfect opportunity...Liverpool at home. I watched Liverpool lose their tenth game this season to Brighton and thought " this Liverpool team is very ordinary and are fragile, this is ours and Moyes' chance to show we really can be good." Cmon Davy, make me a believer:)))
Same.

Yes, I remember Mourinhos reply when a reporter said his team were boring.
Winning trophies is the kind of boring I want, and I don't care how we do it.

He also said, no one remembers how you played, what they remember is the trophies and leagues you won.

Bit like our 95 FA cup win, it wasn’t pretty, but who cares.
